100 Things: The Inheritance Trilogy

THE INHERITANCE TRILOGY by N.K. JEMISIN
I've been eyeing this trilogy ever since I saw that the first book, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, came out. The entire trilogy is available now but I still haven't gotten around to it (as a side note it'd be nice if Orbit Books would release it as an omnibus *blushes* Just a fanciful thought!). The titles of the second and third books are The Broken Kingdoms and The Kingdom of Gods; the following is the premise of the first novel:
Yeine Darr is an outcast from the barbarian north. But when her mother dies under mysterious circumstances, she is summoned to the majestic city of Sky. There, to her shock, Yeine is named an heiress to the king. But the throne of the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is not easily won, and Yeine is thrust into a vicious power struggle with cousins she never knew she had. As she fights for her life, she draws ever closer to the secrets of her mother's death and her family's bloody history.
With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, Yeine will learn how perilous it can be when love and hate - and gods and mortals - are bound inseparably together.
I've heard wonderful things about the trilogy and how unique it is for a fantasy novel (pacing or story wise, I try not to read too many reviews on it as I want to discover the books for myself). Plus, it's always nice to see a new female writer in the genre (though at this point she has two fantasy series out so she's quite established in the genre). It's received a lot of accolades and nominations as well which is pretty cool. I hope to get around to it it soon! *fingers crossed*
