honest man in a dishonest world ;; remy lebeau

So, to try and sum up this fandom, well, it would be even more of a hot mess than trying to get this mix in on time. The X-Men are, I daresay, Marvel's largest and most successful franchise. To chart its history has taken books. Even charting the history of specific characters in their various incarnations and retcons take up entire wikias. For some reason, I thought I would be able to tackle the card sharp Cajun, Gambit AKA Remy LeBeau. He's been a thief. A king of thieves. A bit of a murdered. A hero. A martyr. No matter what, he's always been a charming sly son of a gun who can whoop your ass with a grin on his face while making you say, please sir, can I have some more?

I had high hopes for this mix. It was meant to track his most "canon" history in one disc and then branch off into two different discs or possible futures including the fantastic mini series The End as "the happy ending" and Days of Future Past for the "sad ending" since most people are familiar with that possible future (thanks X-Men the Animated Series!). HOWEVER, in the real world, I hit damn near twenty songs and hadn't gotten to my fork.  SO, what we have is a truncated mix of Remy's adventures leading us right up to Uncanny X-Men #350 (which, really, as good a stopping point as any, eh? Talk about a balla issue). ANYHOWS, the bonus tracks allude to the imagined two other discs.

Enjoy! And check back, if you're into that sort of thing, for snippets and such.

o5. Runs in the Family -- Amanda Palmer

My friend has blight
he gets shakes in the night

Time takes its toll on him, it is traditional
It is inherited predisposition
All day I've been wondering
What is inside of me,
Who can I blame for it?

Dr. Nathaniel Essex, Weapon X, & Diaries to Disappointment

o6. Chop and Change -- The Black Keys

An innocent child in New Orleans
A simple girl from simple means
Walked the rails
Rode her thumb
She hitched a ride with everyone
Took a job workin' late
Jackin cars from out of state
She found no love in this town
So she'd never mess around
Had no luck, but ain't it strange
The girl knew how to chop and change

Bella Donna, Julien, & Exile

o7. Sounds Better in a Song -- The Drive-By Truckers

“Lord knows, I can’t change” sounds better in the song
than it does with hell to pay.
I might as well of slipped that ring on your finger from a window of a van
as it drove away.
Now she’s found herself, and I lost mine
and I’m just another guy who can’t give her anything.

Interlude ~travelin' & thievin' ~~

o8. Restless Sinner -- Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Fool's gonna fall and raise
Another fallen child
It can't be known
What lies in wait
For those of us in crippled states
A broken mind is no escape
When there's no one left to reason with
There's no one left to call your name

The Massacre, The Deal, The Longest Con of All

o9. Coward -- Vic Chesnutt

The courage of the coward is greater than all others
A scardy cat'll scratch you if you back him in a corner

The Guilt, The Child, The Shame

1o. (Ghost Riders) In the Sky -- Johnny Cash

The riders looked on by him and
he heard one call his name,
If you want to save your soul from hell
on ridin' on our range,
Then cowboy change your ways today,
Or with us you will ride.
Trying to catch the devil's herd
Across these endless skies.

Storm & Joining the X-Men

11. SexyBack -- Justin Timberlake

You see these shackles
Baby I’m your slave
I’ll let you whip me if I misbehave
It’s just that no one makes me feel this way

-- instrumental --

Bella Donna Dies

13. Together We Will Live Forever -- Clint Mansell

-- instrumental --

A Rebel and his Rogue

14. I Can Get Us Out of Here Tonight -- Lucero

Long legs use 'em and run
Blue eyes that blind like the sun
I might not be the one
But that's alright
I can get us outta here tonight
Don't look back don't hesitate
Car's outside and we can't wait
Sunday morning is coming down

The Trial

15. Motherfucker == Redeemer (Part Two) -- Godspeed You Black Emperor!

-- instrumental --

Antarctica

16. Who Wants to Live Forever -- Breaking Benjamin

There's no time for us
There's no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams
Yet slips away from us
Who wants to live forever?
There's no chance for us
It's all decided for us

The New Son or The Deal Reprise

17. (Don't Fear) The Reaper -- Blue Oyster Cult

Come on baby... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby take my hand... Don't fear the Reaper
We'll be able to fly... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby I'm your man...

Closing Credits

18. Louisiana Two-Step -- C.J. Chenier & The Red Hot Louisiana Band

Alright, forget about that rheumatism in your bones, baby
Let's do the Louisiana Two-Step!

Bonus Track! Or To Be Continued? (The End)

19. Hell-bent and Heart-first -- Cory Branan

I went to a party
The party came to nothing
I got there early and I drank for dear life
I met a girl there
She looked like the Virgin Mary
She had a tattoo that looked like a gun
I'm sure that there were other people at this party
But I couldn't tell you who and neither could she
She had a stun-gun, a lasso, and a tractor beam
And we were locked on target when I threw away my keys

Five years have passed now
Like unopened letters
I settled down and took that girl for my wife
We both work hard to feed the children
But our dreams are slowly starving
Nothing scars you deeper than the things you haven't done
But in the cool of the evening
We fall together burning
We never bring up the things we set aside
Cause it was worth all the hard times
Worth all that heartache
Hell, it was worth it all if it was only for that night

Bonus Track! Or To Be Continued? (Days of the Future Past)

20. Judas -- Lady Gaga

A king with no crown, king with no crown
I’m just a Holy Fool, oh baby he’s so cruel
But I’m still in love with Judas, baby
