Sherlock Rec post

Dec 26, 2011 16:42

Authors and other creators, if I have miscategorized your fic or there's a different posting of it you'd rather be linked, please let me know and I will rectify it.

This is a biggish one that's been backlogging for a while, so I've cut to each section for easier navigation.

GEN FIC

Five Birthdays by morganstuart
Description: Some birthdays are welcome. Others are not.
(A few different takes on birthdays of different characters, very in character, sweet and bittersweet, and completely charming.)

Percussive Therapy by errantcomment
Prompt: One day in the lab, Sherlock says something/does something/generally pushes too hard, and Molly loses it, and uses the riding crop to vent her frustrations on Sherlock. [Complete prompt at story]
(Sherlock is very Sherlock, and a friend to Molly in a very Sherlock way.)

Extremely British by pennypaperbrain
Summary: Sometimes John finds Sherlock crying. He doesn't know why, nor whether/how he should go about finding out.
(An interesting take on Sherlock and emotions, and John is wonderful.)

Too Much by Blooms84 on AO3
Prompt: While John was dating Sarah, he knew he could always crash overnight on her couch when Sherlock got to be too much. But now that they've broken up, John doesn't really have that option. The only person he thinks will understand and help is Lestrade. [Full prompt at story]
(John and Lestrade buddy-bonding and analyzing their roles in Sherlock's life via the circus.)

Who Else Would I Call? by laurtew
Summary: John sees Sherlock repeatedly entering a number into his phone, but when he questions Sherlock about it, Sherlock is evasive. What’s going on here?
(Touching and adorable and quite sensible, really.)

Trojan Detectiveby jaune_chat
Crossover: Chuck
Summary: Chuck’s latest Intersect download has a little something extra…
(Pure crack, and does well with both 'verses.)

Keep Calm and Lie On by Trista_zevkia
Crossover: Lie to me
Summary: A conversation.
(Sherlock and Cal Lightman discuss investigative methods. Lestrade is apprehensive.)

Golden by ciaranbochna
Summary: There are some words that destroy from the inside out.
Warnings: References to terminal illness
(John has a very bad day, Sherlock helps by being there. A quiet and emotionally genuine ficlet.)

The Green Blade by verityburns
Summary: As a serial killer hits the headlines, the police are out of their depth and the next victim is out of time. With faith in Sherlock Holmes at an all time low, this is a case which will push loyalties to the limit...
(A fantastic long (73k!) case-fic that holds stunning character moments, plot twists, and overall excellent writing.)

SQUINT FIC

Blue Veins by oh_god_yes
Warnings: wartime violence, offscreen OC death
Prompt: If a clock could count down to the moment you meet your soul mate, would you want to know? Everyone has a clock, either installed by futuristic machines or they're born with one
(Half sci-fi, half magic reality AU. Sometimes painful in the establishment of the laws of the 'verse, what is a soulmate and what happens when connections are missed or broken. Beautifully written.)

*Squint = Could be read as Slash or Gen.

PRE-SLASH FIC

A Relaxing Pastime by idlepabulum
Summary: Sherlock rather likes getting petted.
(Fluff and schmoop and fluff.)

SLASH FIC

A Strange Morning by Moranion on FF.net
John is feeling really strange and Sherlock talks about that which gives extras. Blame it all on a bloody butterfly. S/J slash, some vaguely insane thoughts and tender loving talk about crime.
(Sherlock/John - Rated T, kissing. Sherlock and a butterfly. What's not to like?)

Love and Other Deaths by lotherington
Summary: ‘I don’t love you,’ Sherlock whispers against John’s shoulder, his dark hair curling around the white, stretched skin of John’s scar, the top of his arm.
(Sherlock/John - PG13, suggestive and sensual scenes. Love, and how words aren't the same as truth.)

Proper (First) Date by red_carrigan
Summary: John wants to take Sherlock on what he considers to be a 'proper' date. He then discovers that it's Sherlock's first. Ever.
(Sherlock/John, (background Mike/Molly) - PG13, established relationship, romance. Incredibly adorable.)

Eggs in the Morning by list_of_lists
Summary: John comes downstairs one morning to find Sherlock and Lestrade cooking breakfast. Sort of.
(Sherlock/Lestrade - PG, established relationship. Domestic kitchen schmoop.)

Indelible by abundantlyqueer on AO3
Summary: Lestrade invites John along to a yearly ritual of humiliation at paint-ball. Sherlock wouldn't miss this for anything.
(Sherlock/John - PG, Established background relationship. Part of the 221Bravo AU where Sherlock met John years earlier in Afghanistan. All that is background. This is paintball, and John and Sherlock play to win.)

Words Within by jessamygriffin
Warnings: Brief mention of child abuse. Brief episode of violence. Brief description of sex.
Summary: The words don't come easily to Sherlock, John supposes. He doesn't mind. In this, Sherlock is pretty much like any other man. John just hadn't expected all the gestures. It doesn't seem very... well, very Sherlock. Anyway, John knows. He hears the word in Sherlock's every action, sees it in the spaces between.
(Sherlock/John - Rated Mature, covers from Newly established relationship into glimpses of the future, romance, cuddles, brief depictions of sexual activity. Written softly and gently in a warm cozy dreamlike way. Awwwww.)

Home Alone by thirdbird
Summary: John has every intention of spending Christmas on his own this year.
(John/Lestrade + Sherlock - T / PG-13, mention of sexual activity, some snogging, part of thirdbird's wonderful "Not your average threesome" OT3 polyamory 'verse. John's ill and hermitty but Lestrade and Sherlock are going to care for him anyway.)

VID

Wherever You Will Go by bloodism
Story: AU - Sherlock was killed at the pool. John tries to cope with his death.
(This vid hurts. It's an intense depiction of grief.)

ART/GRAPHICS

No Strawberry Jam by arianedevere
(Macro sequence based on a scene in The Great Game. Hee!)

Sher-Chocs by Redscharlach on Tumblr
(People and elements from the show as confectionery. Sharp and brilliantly witty.)

Without Hesitation by Cosom on DA.
(Sketched Comic-style panels, wherein John Watson is a BAMF.)

OTHER

Livejournal layout and profile layout by fueschgast
(Very cool.)

Flash Game by Bennai on DA
(Paper dolls of Sherlock, John, Mycroft, Lestrade and Moriarty in a flash game)
