For Brits, the subject of tonight's Who Do You Think You Are? is Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling. Last weeks was Eastenders' star, June Browne. I didn't think it would be remotely interesting as I don't watch that show, but it turned out to be rivetting as she traced her ancestory back to the Barbary Coast of the 1700s! So great to see one of my ( Read more... )

Ooh, thank you! I always mean to watch that, and end up forgetting that it's on (watching telly in my room is such a palaver that I tend to only do it on purpose, if you see what I mean...).

I'm finally catching up with my Harry Potter too - not the books yet, but I've only got The Deathly Hallows Part 1 to go on dvd, and then it'll be waiting for the last one... maybe I'll even be able to track down a cinema where it's still showing!

Did you manage to see it? I thought it was absolutely fascinating.

I haven't caught the last HP film yet either and might end up waiting for the dvd.

Oh, you'll not believe it... I saw your comment and just... *headdesk* No! Even though I saw an advert for it on my landlady's telly when I went to get dinner, by the time 9 o'clock came around my tv was off and I'd forgotten again...

I'd love to hear about her background, if you've a few minutes for the telling?

ETA - iPlayer! I can catch up, can't I!

June Browne was fascinating wasn't she?
I love the programme and have learnt to watch it even if I don't "like" the subject as it is always revealing.

I didn't expect June's story to be very interesting but it most certainly was. Yes, I too watch even if the subject is not of any interest to me. Their story or the history involved always is.

Watching JKR's WDYTYA as we speak and will have to catch up with June Brown's on the iPlayer.

I'm looking forward to seeing Len Goodman's programme as his grandparents (I think) used to have the greengrocer's shop where my mother and grandmother used to buy their fruit and veg!

Oh, and Richard Madeley's too, as he used to go to my school! *g*

Worth catching the June Brown one, C, as it was excellent.

How funny about Len Goodman. I think he's lovely but would watch anyway as Mum was a Londoner and I always feel a connection.

Finally watched June Brown's programme - how intriguing, her ancestors left Amsterdam for the East End at the same time as mine!

I'd love to have somebody nursemaid me through the Amsterdam archives like they did for June. I suppose I'll just have to learn Dutch and do it myself some day! *g*

(Great icon, btw!)

we have that program here too.. they are still in reruns however. I hope our new line up is good.. wondering if it will be the same as yours? did you have rosie odonnell last time? if so we will probably get what you get.

speaking of our same shows... Merlin disappeared after second season here and I never saw a second season of Downton Abby! *grumble*

Nope we didn't have Rosie last time... our line-up is different to yours though the BBC did show a couple of yours one time. And we get occasional Americans... they did Jerry Springer in 2009.

The second season of Downton hasn't aired here yet. I'm guessing we'll see it in Sept or Oct and you won't be far behind as it was really popular in The States.
