This 'n' that

I must make an effort to post here more often. Real life is a trifle complicated with our daughter's health and so forth but that's no excuse. Anyway, she has a date of the 20th. December for her surgery now and things, at the moment anyway, are quieter. We're got the usual cold bug thing that usually stays with us throughout the winter: think I ( Read more... )

Glad to hear you don't have gallstones, then they don't have to be removed. *g* Good to know there is a date for your daughter's surgery, I hope all goes well.

Watching Masterchef: The Professionals, but am still not too happy about the new concept, but then I don't do change well.

Can't help you with the books, but wish you luck finishing that goal! :)

Yes, I wasn't looking forward to having gallstones removed. :-( Thank you, we're relieved to at least have a date to aim for now.

I've got used to the Masterchef changes so much that I'd forgotten it was ever any different. LOL!

Thanks!

I'm really glad J has a date for the op. And very glad you don't have gallstones - I do find the whole 'only one kidney' thing weird, surely they should have found that out before now?

Yes, we are watching and enjoying Professional MasterChef. Ah, Michel Roux Jnr . . .

Well... I thought when I had my two gynaes op back in the late 80s that they might have noticed but I suppose the areas of the body are different. Or no reason to check. It does seem really weird though, I agree. She said they have 90 year olds in for ultrasounds suddenly being told they only have one. Apparently there's no reason why the individual should notice.

Oh yes... Michel. And Monica! :-)

You'd have thought so. Ah, well, as long as it's not a problem - which clearly it never has been.

Ah, yes . . . Those eyes . . .

Welcome to the one kidney club! I too was having an X-ray for something else about fifteen years ago and the doctor came out and said "Did you know you only have one kidney??"
Well no, actually!

It's quite a shock isn't it? I mean I know it's fine and we can exist with just one, but I just was not expecting it.

Good news re your gallbladder test, and fingers firmly crossed for your daughter!

Not much help with the books I'm afraid apart from a few unoriginal choices - maybe try to do a search on Amazon? I mean there's Brokeback Mountain set in Montana, and Catcher in the Rye (and plenty of others) set in New York and Tom Sawyer in, IIRC, Mississippi and of course Gone with the Wind (Georgia? Shame on me, can't say for sure) and probably dozens of political thrillers set in DC and a bunch of westerns set in Texas... There is a non-fiction book about the sequoia forests in northern California called The Wild Trees - and another non-fiction book called The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill set in San Francisco (and if you want to go the vintage adventure route, there is The Mark of Zorro set in old LA) and Love Story set in, IIRC, Massachusetts (or wherever Harvard is) and The Ghost presumably set somewhere around Martha's Vineyard or somewhere nearby in New England - and The Wizard of Oz for Kansas, but at this point my memory runs out.

Thanks, Sweetie. :-)

Actually, you've been quite a lot of help there with books. Quite a few to check out that I've not heard of, so I'll be doing that and adding them to my master list. Ta muchly! :-)
