R.I.P. Anne McCaffrey. Probably the author I've loved the most over the last 35 years. Sad.

Oh no... she's one of my favourite authors too, though it's been years since I read her books...

I haven't read anything by her in about 3 or 4 years. I used to reread the Harper Hall trilogy every now and then because I love it so. Maybe next year. And I need to kick-start the Pern books again, I came to a halt at All the Weyrs of Pern I think.

Oh, no. One of my most-loved authors right from discovering 'The Ship Who Sang' in my teenage years. I met her at an SF convention some time ago - she was a lovely person as well.

RIP, Anne.

Yes, I gather she was a lovely person who would entertain fans at home in Ireland. A friend of mine visited her. I must reread The Ship Who Sang and then read the subsequent books sometime. Restoree was a huge favourite when I read it as a teen.

Is that Golden Cap in your icon?

Umm... I think so. I, erm, acquired it *whistles and looks shifty* from the photo gallery at work, and I'm pretty sure that the photographer said it had been taken while he was on holiday in Devon.

I liked it for the intense colours which give it an almost fairy-tale or mythic feel - it could almost be Pern, just needs a dragon or two in the sky!

LOL. Well, I think it must be Golden Cap. It's just over the border in Dorset I *think* (not certain). Charmouth way. Lovely spot for walking.

May she ride the great dragon in the sky.

Her books gave me a huge amount of pleasure as a teenager; I had all the then written Pern books and a scattering of the others. It's many years since I read one; tastes change, but I still remember them very fondly.

I still read one occasionally, a few stand up still but some do not.

Oh, that is too bad. I've loved her Dragonriders and Harper series a lot. Not so much those co authored with her , or by her son.

I haven't read any of the ones co written with her son, but hear they're not quite as good as the early ones.
