Authentic Relationships

I'm wondering how all of you out there seek authentic relationships with others?  I long to have close and meaningful friendships, but somehow I miss the mark.  I know that it is harder when you're in your late 20's and 30's but it can't be impossible.  Don't get me wrong I have friends, but I don't have anyone I wish to gab with on the phone until ( Read more... )

Most of the time, I don't seek them. I've noticed that as a major difference between Canadians and Americans, though. Canadians are unlikely to become friends in any meaningful sense until a year or two into a relationship. By then, usually shared experience of some sort drives authenticity.

Authentic relationships in my life come in the form of tried and true time...they aren't something that i've ever really sought but more of a lasting effect. They are the relationships where when something happens they are the first people I want to call. They are the ones who through all the years, no matter the storms that we've weathered together or even apart, no matter how long it's been since we've talked I know they'll answer the phone. My partner is the only person I can imagine spending countless hours on the phone with, but when I need someone to listen or to calm me, I know there are a select few that will always be there.
