Ok, this was a mass email earlier today but I figured I'd post here too just to make sure I got everyone. Work related stuff follows.
So I was supposed to officially roll off of this Boston project this Friday (though I have Friday off. That will be 6 in row I haven't worked :-D). Anyway, this is normal course of business here at CSC. There was the potential to be extended but there were contracts and clients and lawyers (sorry Mary Anne) to mess it all up. So it looked like I would hit "the bench" as we call it on Monday (which I also have off). Then last night I got a voicemail from my Ops Manager telling me that the Houston assignment I was on is working on new stuff and is asking for me. This is nice since clearly I did good work and they want me back. But who wants to spend July in Houston, TX? So I was bumming a bit last night. I really didn't want to go back to spending 4 days a week being 1600 miles away. It is murder on the social life. However this morning I received this email from my Lead Arch on the Boston project
John,
I don't know if you were tracking it, but you were due to roll off of Norton at
the end of next week - but we fixed that and have booked you through August for
now, and hopefully for longer if we have good, interesting work for you to do.
So I am officially sticking around in Boston until September 2nd and possibly longer. This is pretty nice. I am super duper psyched about this. It would suck to not be around given I just bought a new bed and have just started dating a cute boy. :-D
Edit: Just spoke to my staffing manager about the extension and other stuff. Turns out the contracts weren't figured out at all at this point. What happened is they decided they didn't want to lose me to the Houston project so they tweaked my role a bit. Originally I was being billed to the Norton (KY) wing of this project. They split my time for now between multiple places so that they could keep me around. So now I will have work for different clients and stuff. This is pretty cool. It feels good to know that they wanted to keep me around. This boy genius thing is working out for me. And I haven't even unleashed the full power on them. I've actually been kind of lazy on this assignment (as evidenced by 6 Fridays off in a row). Imagine if I got a cool task that I could actually do something interesting with. That would be crazy. I love talking to Mark. He always pumps up my ego and makes me feel important. Anytime I get frustrated with my job I just need to swing by and chat with him briefly.
In unrelated news he congratulated me on getting into Northeastern and said he'd see what he could do about assignments that will match up with my new security focus. He also told me that our Ops Manager Didier is in charge of approving tuition reimbursement but since security is such a big deal with CSC lately there should be no issue at all with them paying for it. WOOT!!!
