So I had a mini-hippy freak out yesterday. I called Ryan sometime Sunday afternoon and hadn't heard from him. Of course this wouldn't be a big deal normally, but after the Chris fiasco my brain is still a little off. So I was of course thinking about it too much yesterday at work. I texted Sammy to tell her I may need a therapy session.
Then the greatest thing happened. Batch processing of 276 transactions broke. WOOT! So I got to spend my afternoon playing with what appeared to be a completely random behavior which any computer scientist will tell you is impossible. So I wound up digging deep into the system to prove that it was in fact the payer's system and not my code, causing the issue. Seems they have performance issues and do not do the requisite checking necessary for those performance issues to not F* the whole process. It was fun, I got to jack up the threads on our system to 40 and pump a batch of 1000 transactions through effectively flooding their system. Kind of like
smurfing but not as sexy. So I finally tracked the bug down which made me happy. I then left work (late mind you) and headed home. I then had dinner with the roomies (Jess' blackbean soup) and proceeded to do more testing at home to confirm my hypothesis while watching football. This all served to calm my head a little.
I no sooner opened my laptop and created a 1000 transaction batch (thank god for python, doing that by hand would have sucked) when my phone rang. It was Ryan YAY!!! He started by explaining to me how rough his last 2 days had been and apologized for not calling me on Sunday. Apparently he told me he would Saturday night. I don't remember him doing so, but he does and that's awesome.
He spent all day Sunday after his hockey game trying to get his curriculum ready for school. This is his first week back and the students come back next week. He fell asleep with his face in the book :-( He then worked a full day and was called in by the Sylvan center he works at as well to do some evening sessions. So he finally got headed home at like 8pm and called me on the road to catch up. Sooooo cute.
So we decided to hang this weekend again, but aren't sure what we are doing yet. He's got a few family b-days in a row this week so he knows there will be some family thing this weekend. He told me he'd let me know when he was free as soon as he checked in with his folks. So mini-freakout averted. I feel much better.
Also, super huge update!!! Taylor is coming to Boston this weekend!!! AHHHH!!! I miss her like the deserts miss the rain. No seriously! She's been in England for a year and I haven't seen her in so long. I'm going to squeal and flail and jump like a little girl. I CAN'T FREAKIN' WAIT!!!
