nervous

So ...

My first orchestra rehearsal is Monday night. I'm freaking out. I dropped $300 in the past two days on preparations for this - new strings, getting my pegs tightened, new rosin, a new tuner (I can still remember how to play Tarantella but I can't remember how to tune the instrument!), and some study books to try to quickly get me back up to ( Read more... )

Hooray! Yes, it takes time to get back up to speed (my poor violin is sitting untouched because I snapped a string and can't remember how to restring and retune), but I know that once you get used to it again, it'll come back. :) Good luck hon, and stick with it - this is good for you. *hug* I'm so proud of you, you're doing awesome things with your life, M.

See, that's awesome.

I've decided that when I finally get my B.S. (it will happen one day, I swear) I'm going to buy a cello and learn to play.

An old friend of mine used to play and it took me about 2 seconds to figure out the note alignment and once she showed me how to bow it was magic. I mean, most of that's doing to years of classical guitar training, but...

It's going to be awesome.

Just plug away at it. I've forgotten how to read music entirely, it seems. I've had to reteach myself after 10 years. Entirely frustrating, I tell you.

I'm sure any musician would understand 'I haven't touched this thing in five years.' ;)

I know you've wanted this for years M. Don't get discouraged, don't let it die. You can and will play beautifully. I may not be a scotty, but I might be able to contribute to the 'if m plays for a year' fund in some meaningful way.

I've always wanted to see you play again. Please....

And oh. Good luck. I'm so glad for this chance for you.

I forgot about all the blisters that form ... I am gonna have to take it a bit slower, even though I totally want to jump in neck-deep. Grr. M want cello.

*hugs all* I reckon Brighty & Jilu should come out here and we'll find a viola player, and make a cello-heavy string quartet :) One of us cellists can play the 2nd violin part maybe? It'd be fun!

Firewitch, you're totally right about the frustratingness of remembering how to read music. I'm trying not to go with my instincts, 'cause my brain is sort of deciding what note should be next, rather than reading what's on the page. Grr again. But I'm getting through it. I might not TOTALLY suck Monday night...

Jeff, my first concert is in March, you're invited! It's a bit of a drive away, but dinner will be on me, and we have a spare room if you can't drive back the same day ;)
