Poetry Monday (I meant Sunday!)

Aug 31, 2009 15:32

I forgot yesterday for some reason or another. Hopefully, I'll have a new piece up for next weekend.

I cross my legs at the knee
One elbow on the table
Whiffing a piece of hair out of my eyes.

This informal charm is
Affected, something I wear
When I want to tear away the skin to show you

So while you watch me
While we laugh with each other
Casual when we are together

I strip away the trapezius
Such a pretty name, for that juncture of neck and shoulder
And show you the pulse your lips should seek.

I pull away the flesh over my breast
Exposing the ribs, the heart beneath which stops when you speak
Lungs which catch for want of you.

And I reach for a place
Your hands once drifted, taking skin and bone
Burning for the pressure of the palm of your hands

I reveal nerve, muscle, sinew, blood vessel
Things which breathe, beat, long, need everything about you
I reveal everything you already know about me.

I cross my legs at the knee
Whole for the world, for any bystanders, outsiders, so unplanned.
This is our inside joke- an anatomy lesson of desire
