Last week, Katie and I were driving back to my house. I had a big package of bottled water in my hands, and we started walking towards the house. A pair of guys yelled at us to stop

holy crap! I'm glad I'm reading this from a perspective where I know you're ok.
You should seriously consider publishing a version of this story though.
Now that you're ok, have you started the clean-up of things? Since your hands were tied, I'm assuming the bank caught the guy on the ATM camera (so you shouldn't be out $400 and they should be relatively easily identified).
Well, the disputes office at Chase doesn't open until tomorrow morning. Hopefully that'll be the case. The robber himself seemed pretty confident I'd get the $ back.

For some reason, I love that detail. I think that what makes it as a story (probably not so much as an experience) is that the robber almost comes across as nice. It's probably the most Quentin Tarantino-esque experience I've ever heard of.
Just curious, did this make the local news at all? I'm not sure what the criteria for things making it on are, but armed robbery/abduction seems to be bigger than other crimes I've seen reported.
And that would be why I keep telling Aaron I don't want to live in that neighborhood. Scary. I'm glad you were OK - money can be replaced.
Aaron and I were discussing this today, and we agreed you've got the beginning of a fantastic screenplay here. If I had heard this from anyone else, I wouldn't have believed it was true.

Funny about the Tarantino comparison. We'd made the same one, aside from the fact that it would have ended violently.

It sure is one hell of a story though. You really should've asked what his favorite superfriend was. Hehe.
It'll suck, but good luck getting it all sort out with the detective and the bank and stuff.
