I want to begin this political rant with a reminder than I am not a Republican, I consider myself an Independant.

So, Arlen Spector crossed party lines and became a Democrat yesterday.  That gives Democrats a supermajority in the senate and the house.  Republicans cannot block any Democratic legislation, period, end of story.  Welcome to the United ( Read more... )

I told my dad that supermajorities were crazy (and btw, I'm fairly certain that we only have 59 votes now, not 67), and that I don't know why the country would be amped to get one.

He said I wasn't a very good democrat.

The magic number is 60, that keeps the Republicans from blocking your legislation. If Al Franken wins his challenge, which it looks like he will, he will be number 60.

Lol. Just tell him to look where a republican controlled congress and a republican president got us over the last 8 years.
