The petting zoos are done... now... shearing

4 petting zoos in just over 2 weeks... umm... never never again.  Even the llamas did not want to get on the trailer for the last one.  We were all wiped out!

In the last month, to 90 days, I have added a few animals.  We now have 3 llamas, 30 - 35 alpacas, 3 sheep, 3 goats, 30+ chickens, 2 mini donkeys, 2 standard donkeys, 17 pigs, 2 ( Read more... )

I have no idea how you manage to do all that you do...You're a power house on legs. You must fall into bed every night exhausted.

Are all the dogs continuing to do OK?

I will update the doggies soon!

I swear we are just ... worn out atm.

Had another emergency run to Auburn Saturday due to an alpaca down. Lost the whole day.

that is a lot of animals!

are the ferrets in the house? they are so stinky. I was watching a home renovating show where a couple did animal rescue and their house was trashed from all the animals. even after all they did, replacing carpet, scrubbing walls, they still couldn't get the ferret stink out.

good luck with the shearing! i got to see sheep shearing once and they did a young sheep whose first time it was getting sheared. the guy said 'he likes it, he just doesnt know it yet'. and about halfway thru with half his fur gone, the sheep decided he did indeed like it. it was funny.

Yes, the ferrets are in the dining room. They have a 3 story kennel they stay in most of the time. Its cleaned regularly. When its cleaned, they are allowed to run on the vinyl floor in another room (restricted access). I am actually allergic to them, so I do not deal with them much.

We have been doing animal rescue for a while.

Taking in another foster next weekend.

animals are hard on the house on a good day! my big huge living room window (that's actually 3 windows all next to each other), the wood trim around the bottom of the window is deeply scored and gouged all the way across from the dog nails. I need to take those curtains in to be dry cleaned because where puppy nudges the curtains open in the middle with his snout, dog drool and dirt have built up in that spot and its a bit gross looking. so far the hardwood floors are holding up, but I have little rugs stuck down with special carpet tape in strategic places/halls that they run to help prevent nail damage. they're hell on my sheets (and the sheets I keep on the futons). they skid to a stop and rip the darn sheets. i had a couch years ago that two cushions got eaten. i put the stuffing back in and sewed on a Frankenstein patch. it worked. a couple of doors have scratch marks on them from the dogs pawing when i'm on the other side. mainly the door between the house and the garage, and the door to the basement. I've been ( ... )
