I really love my job at the moment, yet at the same time, I miss being in the classroom and working on academic stuff. Thing is, I need some kind of library close at hand, or maybe listening to some conference papers to shake up my thinking. Or so I think. I would offer you my job, except I wouldn't want to inflict it on a friend... I would also tell you just to get rid of the tv and the snacks--that's what we did--but it's a radical move and really just means more foraging and going to sleep earlier. Good job on the coffee and the nails, though :-)

I love this post, btw. Hilarious. Congrats on the nails! I'm a horrible nail biter, so I know what an accomplishment that is.

LJ as my witness, I'm taking a drinking sabbatical until Xmas. I'd like to lose weight, but also I need never to be hungover during the job market.

I'm so sympathetic to everything in your post, from the TV to the snacking to the writing anxieties.

The thing is, you have not been away from academia for very long considering your extensive experience. Once the gears are back in motion, I'm sure they will move along as ever. Still, I'm always for conferencing, if it's doable.

Incidentally, I literally have Jay hide certain foods from me when they come in. And if I want some, I have to go into another room while he digs out the goods.
