March 16, 2020Checking in stuff:
Dink is heading back to work today, so long as she doesn't have a fever this morning. Whatever little bug she had/has, it isn't Covid-19, so she may as well get back to the preschool to help. She also is working out an arrangement with the parents of her two favorite boys to watch the older one, whose school is closed, at their home during the day while they're working from home (they're both lawyers). She'd be setting up his homeschool schedule and helping him with the curriculum his school has sent home, plus keeping him out of their hair while they work. So even if the preschool shuts down, she has employment lined up (and would make far more money, actually). Her own online university classes won't be starting for another week and a half, so she has time to set up a study area for that. She's thinking of using a space in the basement, but also thinking she might just hang out on her bed to watch the lectures and do all the things 18-credit hours online will require. We'll probably spend a bit of time today or tomorrow setting up the basement so she has both options available. She's going to be a very busy gal, I think, once classes start.
Hubby is still going to work, as well. He's always a bit stressed with his job, but the virus has made it even worse, as it has all of us. His go-to when he's stressed is silence and burying himself in TV, so I'm just giving him space to do that in the evenings. I ask him enough to let him vent, but I know how it is to *not* want to rehash all your problems aloud every evening when you just need to take a break from thinking about it.
My sister up in St Louis is doing well during all of this. You might recall she was laid off back before Christmas. She's been job-hunting and has had a few interviews but no offers, and now we're both seeing it as a blessing because she can simply stay home and collect unemployment checks for quite some time (she just has to make contacts with businesses about jobs to keep unemployment eligible). Her condominium is paid for, as is her car, and she really only has limited expenses, so she's set for quite some time. Seeing as she turns 60 in May and has a few underlying issues that could be problematic, she's very happy to stay home. She's also like me in that she *prefers* to stay home. *g* Today, though, she's having a man come to install a new bathtub (hers had cracked), but keeping social distance in a situation like that should be easy enough. She can just stay in the living room or her bedroom while they get on with things. I'm she'll be texting progress photos all day. (And even as I typed that, she sent me her "before" photos and yikes, the tub really is in terrible shape XD)
Question of the day: what is your favorite dessert/sweet treat? Mine is probably a big warm brownie (sans nuts) with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. If I didn't care if I gained 800 pounds, I could eat that every day and twice on Sundays. *sigh*
