I had to drive to a shoe store on the other side of the city, but it was worth the trip, as I came away with two pairs of shoes, both on sale. \o/
The first pair (just a screen cap because I didn't take a pic at the store and am too lazy to dig them back out of the closet for a proper pic):
Just nice, basic platform espadrilles that aren't extreme and will stand the test of time (so long as they don't fall apart; you never know with shoes--I've had expensive ones fall apart after 2 wearings, and I have some cheap ones I bought 15 years ago at Payless that have lasted longer than the actual store chain). The sole isn't super soft, but it's the right shape for my foot, and the foot bed is stiff enough that my non-bendy toe is happy, plus the crooked pinky toe is nicely tucked in under the well-placed strap (usually strappy sandals dig their edge into my toe instead, ow). I also like that these can go either way, dressy or casual.
The other pair are ones I've been eyeing on Amazon for ages, but never tried ordering because I didn't think it would fit my high instep (inherited from my mom, whose instep was so high, she always had to go up a size and so her shoe soles were always about an inch too long). When I saw them at the store, I thought, "Eh, what the heck, try 'em on." Lo and behold, they not only fit, but were instantly comfortable in that "ahhhh" way that tells you that you won't have to worry about a breaking-in period of blisters.
They look a bit more brown in the photo, but they're actually a dove grey. I like that they're just a little funky, but not too over the top funky.
I'm very, very pleased with both. Neither are suitable for day-long walking, of course, but they're perfect for when I want to look pulled together for a wedding, graduation, girls lunch out etc etc etc. (Or shopping in local boutiques that normally intimidate me because I have never ever had an outfit as pulled together as the people who shop in those boutiques....)
Speaking of lunch, Dink wants to go out to lunch for taco Tuesday. My scale says I should NOT do that, but... we haven't been able to have lunch together in over a year, so... *sighs and resigns myself to a lecture from the doc at next week's appointment*
Now I best be off to get an extra round on the treadmill...
Happy Tuesday!
