... well, kinda.
The other day I finished the last Charlaine Harris book that I have.
Book 16 of 2010 - From Dead To Worse - Charlaine Harris
11/02/10 - 14/02/10
I got through this one so quickly. It didn't have as huge an over-arching story as some of the previous ones have had. Whereas they had a big mystery/event (the Queen of Louisiana's wedding, the conference at the Pyramid of Gizeh) this one had smaller events taking place (the Vampire's war, the Werewolves power struggles, Niall). And that wasn't a bad thing.
For one thing, it tied up some of the loose ends. Bob became human again, Sophie-Anne and her people are now out of the way for future stories, things with Crystal and Jason have pretty much come full circle, the Debbie Pelt issue has been cleared up (hopefully once and for all, though part of me thinks that Sandra will come back again).
I also loved the way that Sookie kept on discovering family. First her great-grandfather, which made Claude and Claudine her cousins, then finding Hadley's ex and little Hunter.
Which brings me to my final point. I can't wait for the next book. I'm in love with little Hunter. When I first read the hints that he was telepath too, I flicked back a page to check that i hadn't missed it. I hope that he comes into it more in future books. It ended on a real high note with Hunter and Sookie thinking goodbye to one another.
Of course I don't know when I'll get my hands on the next book in the series. I doubt whether I'll find them in charity shops. Hopefully when there's another three or so out The Book People will do another set of them. Otherwise I'll have to set aside some money for them. Thankfully Dad's getting into them so I may be able to persuade him that we absolutely need new copies of Charlaine Harris's books.
Since then I've started The Silmarillion. I like to read Tolkien's books in order, but I'm fairly flexible about when I read The Silmarillion. Sometimes I read it after The Lord of the Rings when I'm still full of the tales in the appendices, other times I read it before The Hobbit so I can kind of surround myself in the world. Last year I bought The Children Of Húrin from a second-hand bookshop in Pickering but I never got around to reading it, so I'm planning on reading them right through.
It was a toss-up between Tolkien and Harry Potter, but as I read a Harry Potter book fairly recently I thought it probably best if I waited a while before going back to the beginning. I might alternate, one Tolkien book and one Harry Potter book, though there is another series of books I'd like to start, things could get a little bit confused.
