The Prelude:
Almost everybody in Lima, Ohio knows Rachel Berry is Broadway-bound. The exact same people are fairly certain Noah Puckerman is an adult criminal record waiting to happen. Pretty much all of them think the two teens only learned to get along after joining Glee. How little they know. None of them know how the two have spent every summer since starting junior high. These two teens know how to act, and if they have to be enemies to do their other ‘work’, so be it. When push comes to shove, they work together flawlessly. They have been doing it for years.
On their last Jewish summer retreat at age 11, the two of them had been chosen for a special retreat in South Dakota. Isolated in another state, surrounded by strangers, they stuck together especially when strange stuff started happening. Both of them noticed the smell of sulfur, heard the heart-stopping shrieks, and watched as the police showed up each morning. After three kids had disappeared, Rachel called her dads. Within a few hours Rachel’s uncle, Bobby Singer, showed up and the weirdness stopped. He had to tell them about the supernatural and how the ‘scary stories’ were actually real. He taught them a few basic items for their own safety. Since then the two of them have returned to South Dakota every summer in order to train with Bobby. They wanted to know enough to keep themselves safe.
With the start of high school, they found themselves in wildly different social circles and they agree to hide their hard-earned partnership. However it grows harder once they both find themselves in Glee. When Rachel figures out the truth about the baby’s paternity, she goes to Puck’s house and confronts him. He spills everything - about that night, his desire to tell Finn and claim the baby, and Quinn’s stonewalling. Rachel doesn’t like it, but she understands why he won’t tell Finn the truth. She warns him to be ready because she’s going to tell Finn. He doesn’t stop her. As Babygate threatens to implode New Directions, Rachel and Puck take the lead in trying to keep the group together and working. Their easy connection startles everyone, but no one has time to think about it.
After winning Sectionals, they are ready to aim for Regionals. The persecution of the Gleeks picks up in the hallways once more with the return of slushy showers. Suddenly the bullies find themselves being targeted. Someone beats on them in the locker rooms and hallways of the school, but no one ever sees anything and the victims are unable to identify their attacker. On the third attack, Puck comes in unexpectedly and sees the person vanish into thin air. He tells Rachel and, knowing they are probably over their heads, they call Bobby immediately. Bobby agrees it’s worth looking into and promises to send them some help.
Dean and Sam Winchester ride into town. This ought to be one interesting partnership - if they don’t kill each other first.
