Er, hmm. I love tattoos. I love how they have stories behind them (even if it's just "I was SO drunk!") and looking at the technique and how much skill it takes to make a good one.
But I do have one nitpicky thing with them - it has to be actually decent artwork. If you're going to mark yourself forever, get someone who knows what they're doing and not like they drew on you with a Sharpie. Maybe it's just the quality of the photos, but a couple of those look pretty terrible technique-wise, and I think the only artist I'd even *consider* letting touch me with a needle is the one that did Rin.
I know I'm a real snob when it comes to tattoos. :P I just think that if you're going to mark yourself, mark yourself with something that's both meaningful to you *and* beautifully done.
I so agree. Knew a guy with a wizard holding a crystal sphere and the ball was not perfectly round. Drove me nuts to look at it. Wanted to get a sharpie and fix it!!!!
My uncle has a wizard with a sphere on it that is so far from round that I offered to help him pay to have it removed or something done over it. Blech! My OCD couldn't stand it!
Wow. Thanks for the links. I have multiple tats, but none are pictures like that (leaves and 2 measures of music and the rest abstract/tribal)... Some of these are very nicely done, but still, I don't think I'll partake, personally...
okay, i venture back into the online world (i just hooked up my wireless and i am overjoyed to NOT be doing work) and i see this! i love tattoos but i don't know if i could have any anime characters permanently engraved on my body.
Very interesting! I have to confess to being just a little creeped out by the man with the Rin tattoo.
Your tattoo plans sound great! I always love to hear someone really put a lot of thought into it and actually checked out artists beforehand. I took close to a year doing research, finding the right studio and artist, and then approving his design for my dragon. After all these years, I still love it! I am with you all the way, too, on carefully selecting the placement of the tattoo. I love being able to show or conceal mine as I wish AND being able to SEE it myself without having to use a threeway mirror.

But really... Getting a good tattoo artist to redo one like the third link could be really breathtaking.

that top half back one is beautiful though.

It would have to be the perfect representation and I'd probably have to get paid for it....and it would have to be tiny.

I like the flow and the colors of that one.
