Decided to try the meme where you describe what you do using only the ten hundred most-used words.

"Math"...wasn't on the list!

I study things about numbers, and different ways of adding them together and making new numbers, and ways of using numbers to talk about space, and which things are different and which things are the same

"I help to make sure that the money that goes to the people who grow our food and raise our animals is spent well and that we get the most out of our spending. I also help the people who make sure that the animals are taken care of and that our food is safe to eat. I help people to meet, plan for training, help people go places, and make sure my office runs well."

It is kind of sad that farmer isn't one of the 'ten hundred' available words.

And Caius, your description makes math sound very cool.

I wonder what sample they were using exactly! Perhaps not enough farmers represented.

(Although it sounds like you might also work with government? One of my twitter friends gave up on this altogether she couldn't get "law," "government," or "rule".)

And, thank you! Apparently all it takes to make math sound cool is to forbid me to use just about any word I would actually use!

Actually I work with both. Government and farmers and auditors. Sad that neither government nor farmers was in the accepted words, though I do suppose that it forces us to be more descriptive and less technical.
