You're probably seeing part of the Persied Meteor shower which peak on August 11th but are highly active a week or so before and after the peak.
They're also more numerous after midnight as our portion of the earth is now rotating into the debris field where as before midnight, any meteors you see are catching up to the earth in it's rotation.
