Recently while hanging out in some outskirts* neighborhoods (Lake City, South Seattle, West Seattle), I thought, not for the first time, that I would consider living in such places if the public transportation in this town didn't SUCK so much. Indeed. Three cheers for the Seattle brand of ineffective leadership -- bringing you a quarter-finished rail line from Jackson Street to the airport (sort of) since 1979.

Who calls Lake City a suburb? I do recall, though, that when I was little, I thought "West Seattle" was a separate city, but that had to do with my mom making a big production about "yay, we're going to WEST SEATTLE to visit [fun family friends]!!" and such was one of the few occasions we took the Viaduct anywhere.
