012 [Action/Voice]

[Ever since Bil/Catherine/whatever told him that the sword Guy lost would probably be returned, Luke checked the weapon shop every day in the hopes of finding it. The days he didn't find it were met with a disheartened sigh, half-hearted lingering to check out the rest of the weapons, then wandering back home. He remained hopeful, though, always ( Read more... )

[Is that a flash of red hair she sees in her smithy? Winry props the broom she was using (as she is keeping the smithy at its best while Sokka is away) against a wall.]

Luke?

[And this had been just before Luke darted forward to grab the sword, so he doesn't answer her just yet. He grips the hilt of the blade, though not lifting it up, as he's too busy plain gaping at it. It was here... It was really here! The weapon that was lost because of him... It was here!

That's when he realizes that someone called him, and he pauses, blinks, then looks over his shoulder.]

... Oh, Winry! Hey! [He sure sounds relieved and happy.]

[She smiles.] You find something you like?

Heh heh... Yeah, you could say that.

[Finally, he lifts it up. This is the sword that's been hanging in his foyer since before Luke was even born...]

Do you know when you got this?

[Guy doesn't bother Luke until dinnertime rolls around, and then he goes about the house taking suggestions on what he should make. He knocks on Luke's doorjamb before letting himself in.]

Hey Luke?

[Luke had had his back to the door, holding the sword in a way that his body hid it. He'd been practicing what to say to Guy, see, and how to present the sword properly. It wouldn't do to just... hand it to him, right?

But the knock and the voice makes him jump and spin around, and... there's the Jewel of Gardios, gripped awkwardly in Luke's left hand as he raises it up a little with surprise.]

Whoa, Guy! Jeez, say something before you...

[... Ah, right. The sword is. Kind of right there, huh.

So much for formal.]

[Guy stills when he sees the Jewel in Luke's hand. A cocktail of emotions bolt through his chest but he settles on relief after only a second or two, smiling softly, eyes still on the sword.]

...found that, did you?

[He'd thought he would never see it again. Had resolved to let it go.]

... Yeah. I... kind of asked for it.

[How did he practice this? Luke had just about gotten it right before Guy bolted him out of it, and now everything he'd rehearsed had flown out of his head. He turns the sword slightly in his hand - dammit, dammit, what had he told himself to say?

Then again... Maybe it's better this way.

Luke holds out the sword with one hand... then thinks better of it, leans it to the side to lay the flat side of it in his other hand, and then offers it to Guy.]

I'm sorry for making you lose it.

[ this has been a series of pretty much the longest days ever. the last draft was like this too, but ... it never really gets better.

so it's a very tired poppet that crashes into bed that night, staying awake just long enough to check her journal for anything pressingly important.

... oh. hey Luke. ]

Okay. [ her voice is soft, but amiable. she sounds alright, at least. ]

[There's one special girl he's looking for. Though she sounds tired (and who can blame her, really?), Luke still has to smile and duck his head just slightly with relief.]

Good... [And then he lifts it up with a slight smirk.] You didn't turn purple this time, huh?

[ mm. just hearing his voice is enough to take away a bit of the day's tension. like it's done every night, when they've spoken...

oh, hey now. that is just unfair. Xion'll stick her tongue out at him. ] No! Come on, that was only the first day. I still can't get over how weird that was.

[ shift, shift. she's curled up in a ball on her side, her head propped on one arm while the other holds the journal up. it's a slightly awkward position, but she's too tired to sit up. don't mind her as she stifles a yawn. ]

[Luke just leans his cheek against his hand and softens his smirk to a half smile as he watches the sight. Even after such hard battles, Xion still managed to look so... adorable. Yeah, that's the right word. And not in the annoying way, like those damn cheagles, but... genuinely adorable.

He's so lucky, man.]

I still think you could've scared all those enemies off just by growling at them. [He makes a light growling sound and makes mock fangs with his free hand, a very quiet, way less dramatic reenactment of his attempts to cheer her up when she first told him about what happened.]

I'm fine. How are you?

[even if you weren't actually meaning to talk to her.]

[Doesn't matter - he'd like a report from everyone, actually.]

Good. Better than good, actually! [He's still worried about the people he cares about out there, of course, but finding the sword and finally being able to give it to Guy has left him in good spirits.]

Do you remember that last draft? Guy saved me on the last day, but he lost his sword, and we all got sent back before he could get it back. It was really important to him, too... I thought he'd never get to see it again. But I found it today!

[Tear is pleasantly surprised to hear from Luke when she checks the journal, taking some much needed rest in her room after a long day. Her voice is tired, but has a hint of happiness nonetheless.]

Things could have gone more smoothly, but it's all right now.

[And the other special girl he's looking for! Luke smiles and lets out a quiet sigh in relief, then settles a little further to talk to her more comfortably.]

I'm just glad to hear you're okay. Actually, you sound kind of tired... [... Well, obviously, she'd just been fighting hard and all. Luke seems to realize that as soon as the sentence leaves his mouth, as his smile falls away in favor of rolling his eyes and running a hand through his hair.] ... Sorry, that was a stupid thing to say.

Don't worry about it. [She isn't even making an attempt to cover it up, it would probably be fruitless if she did try. Right now she's sitting down, resisting the call to lie down and sleep in her current clothing.]

What about you and the rest of the village? How are things faring there?

[Might as well talk about something that doesn't have to do with the war and all.]

It's been pretty much the same... It's kind of boring without you guys here.
