daasgrrl for giving this a look over to make sure it didn't suck :D
Note: I had been having a major writer's block lately. And when I have a hard time writing, all I can do is angst. And this is super short, but I think it gets the point across :)
Even 20 years after they had been on Idol together, Chris still visited Blake every chance he got.
Soon after the tour ended, the two had exchanged private vows and rings, with only themselves in attending. They hadn’t needed to go to Canada or any of the other places that allowed them to be officially joined. They loved each other, and that was enough.
Gina sighed every time Chris started to talk about his better half. He pretended not to see the annoyance in her eyes and tried not to fall for her subject changes. She could be stubborn, but he was more so. Blake had taught him not to let go so easily. Blake had taught him well.
“I’m going to go visit him tomorrow,” Chris said as he met her over lunch. “Wanna join me?”
Why argue? It had been a long time, she reasoned with herself. She nodded and watched Chris’s face light up.
When they arrived, Gina, at first, held back, not wanting to intrude. Chris noticed and beckoned her forwards. Her feet made soft sounds on the dry grass, the fall air crisp and biting against the corners of her eyes. She knelt down, joining Chris. “H-Hi, Blake.”
Chris wrapped his arms around her. “He’s missed you.”
“I’ve missed him, too.” She watched Chris run his fingers over the series of grooves that made up Blake’s name. Caressing an old lover. She understood it then. It hurt much less this way, to imagine him as still being with them. In spirit, he probably was. “Blake,” she addressed the headstone, clearing her throat, eyes sparkling with unshed tears. “You really need to do something about your boyfriend. All he does is talk talk talk about you...”
She came back today
Tell me why it doesn’t feel the same
And I think she was right
It’s only getting better
Feels like yesterday
That I met the one I hold onto
And I’m holding strong
It’s only getting better
Everyone else said
"It all fades out someday"
But we’re not like the rest, not like the rest
Oh we’re not like them
It’s only getting better
She said I have changed
Days are different then they were before
And we both exchange
It’s only getting better
Your light shining brighter than before
Now I see the truth
It’s only getting better
Everyone else said
"It all fades out someday"
But we’re not like the rest, not like the rest
Oh we’re not like them
Not like them at all
She came back today
Tell me why it doesn’t feel the same
And I think she’s right
It’s only getting better
It’s only getting better
It’s only getting better
