Or so the emails tell me. I signed up to a few UK-based baby sites many months ago, and they all send me weekly updates telling me helpful things like "congratulations, your uterus is the size of a basketball!" and "you might notice you have indigestion now!" (O RLY) I could turn them off, but I like some of the recipes they include, and to be honest, it's nice having the reminder of which week I'm in. I'm apparently not a very good mum-to-be, because without these little notices, I wouldn't be able to just whip that number off the top of my head when people ask.
People like, for example, my midwife, whom I just had an appointment with yesterday. She had my file, so she didn't need to ask (well, you know, hopefully) but she said it to be conversational "Hello again! So you're around 27 weeks now, right?" I was able to channel that Babycentre.com notice at the right moment "oh yes, 27 weeks, that's right! I am on top of things!"
I had a glucose tolerance test last week, and the results were evidently Normal. She drew some more blood this week to do some iron testing (I'm interested in those results, actually, as I know my mother has some sort of issue with iron deficiency) and probably a couple of other things as well. She measured the height of the
fundus, and we listened to the heartbeat. He also had the hiccups, which was very awwwwwwwww. AWWWWW little guy has hiccups.
Actually, I suppose I didn't mention that here (or maybe I did, I never read previous entries before charging into a new one.) According to the ultrasound I had just before leaving for the US, the wee one is, apparently, boy-shaped. Anyone who talked to me in the US already knows this, but I think it's news to many others here. Finding out was pretty cool. I had been referring to him in my head as a 'he' for no particular reason. I won't say it's what I OMG wanted, because that wouldn't be entirely true. I maintain that as long as it comes out healthy, I'll be happy. If it does turn out to be a ultrasound-prank-playing girl, that will be cool, too. She will, of course, now be dressed in dinosaur-print PJs, but that's what she gets, really.
He's moving around a lot in there, which I enjoy. It's a very sweet bonding experience, feeling him moving around, and reacting to me when I bump him back. He is also causing me a lot of pain at night, though, due to resting on my sciatic nerve (seriously, AGAIN with the sciatica? At least with my bad back background, I immediately knew what the sensation was and didn't really need to ask anyone. Unfortunately, I can't take any real pain medication this time..) Everyone says to try to sleep on my left side as much as possible, but I just can't stay on one side for a particularly long time before needing to flip to give it some rest. By morning both sides hurt like hell, regardless of which was the last one slept on. At least it goes away after an hour or two, and isn't constant throughout the day.
Here's the scan from the visit in early October.
That's about it for now, I think. :)
oh, also, for Twilight fans:
MSPaint lolTwilight. No, I don't read the books, but I have read the
Cleolinda summaries, which gives me enough insight to appreciate this. LOVE the sparkles.
