odds and ends

Well, we've been busy lately, but it's mostly with everyday stuff - feeding the baby, feeding ourselves, and cleaning up from time to time.

Today, one of the girls from one of the baby groups held a coffee getogether at her house as a fundraiser for cancer support. Her house was packed with neighbors and babies. Tobias had a great time being part of the bundle of babies AND being the only boy around. I saw some people I hadn't seen for a while, and it's amazing how much the babies have grown in such a short time.

Last weekend I volunteered at the NCT Nearly New sale. I opted for the early shift, and arrived a couple of hours before the sale to help set up. As a volunteer, the big perk is that you can buy stuff before the sale begins, and I made the most of that. I bagged a fancy folding stroller for 15 pounds, as well as a entertainment centre in new condition for 30. I found this pretty much new, for 3.50, and was annoyed to find it not working when we got home. However, being married to a cookieman has its perks, and he took it apart and replaced the blown fuse he found. So, brand new awesome toy! love my bip! We also stocked up on some clothes to replace all the ones he's grown out of.

This weekend we've got a few things going on, for once. Tomorrow is a short doctor appointment for the little dude- he's had some issues with eczema, and though most of the small patches he's had have cleared up, he's had a really persistent bit behind one of his knees that's been there for months now, despite all attempted remedies. So our health visitor told us the dr can prescribe some cream which should give him some relief from that.

(so we'll be off to our appointment with no co-pay and a free prescription for the baby. Damn we are so oppressed by this socialist system. cough. Sorry, just some of the frothing, ridiculous arguments from the protesters in the US just sprang to my mind as I was typing about the eczema..)

On Sunday we've got two things to go to. The first is an end-of-Ramadan party we've been invited to by one of cookieman's co-workers. I met her at the office BBQ a little while back, and she was extremely nice, so I'm looking forward to it. Not to mention, I've never been to an end-of-Ramadan party, and I like new things. Anyone who has, do you have a suggestion for something to bring? Going to guess a bottle of wine is out. heh.

After that, there's a scarecrow festival in a nearby village. Some friends of ours who live there have invited us over to their place for tea/coffee and a bit of a stroll through whatever a scarecrow festival is.

As for the dude, he's on solid foods now, though we're still breastfeeding for his milk top-ups. He's been on a mostly vegetarian diet, though this week I successfully introduced some salmon and turkey. Anyone who wants to share recipes or general tips is free to do so! He seems open to most new flavours.

BTW I really appreciate the prod, alivicwil - makes me feel missed. ;) I did start typing an entry around that time, but time got away from me. as usual.

also, I know this meme is dead already, but I'm going to post this for my own amusement, at least. If you don't get it, don't worry about it. :)
