I was totally resisting the Harry Potter mania, planning to wait a few months to buy the book and approach the whole thing with a level head. Then, when I was in the bookstore today, I saw the huge pile of them, all with inviting 40% off stickers, and...I broke down and bought a copy. I've started reading the book, and it's good so far, although ( Read more... )

See, I always read them cause my mom had them. I haven't read the last 2...3...? I dunno. Grad school gets in the way. But, its kinda like getting a new tv show on DVD and going all the way through at once. I plan to start at the beginning and read the whole series starting sometime next year probably, when I'm settled in NY and can steal them from my mom!

Try Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series, the adult ones, in the sci-fi fantasy section. They rock, I like them more than the Potter series I think. I'll report back on that when I start reading them again!

TOTALLY. Heh heh, I did that with Lost -- I hadn't watched any of the series until this summer, at which point a friend lent us seasons 1 & 2... we plowed through them in a couple weeks, then scoured the internet for online episodes of season 3. So good! Harry Potter books are so easy to read, too, so I'm sure I'll be done with this bad boy in no time. I'll have to check out Pullman at the library, I'm always on the lookout for new stuff to read.

Hope Europe is treating you well -- enjoy all the delicious unpasteurized cheese while you can!

But see, you're probably better off this way, the sooner you read it the less spoilers you'll hear! I would hate to read the book if I already knew what was going to happen. My sister waited too long with the last book and she got completely spoiled about what happens to Dumbledore in the end. I kept telling her to finish it!!

Anyway, I was determined NOT to be spoiled this time around! Hahaha, which is why I spent the ENTIRE weekend reading. Around 3:00pm - 4:00am on Sunday! But man, was it worth it. :)
