new orleans overview

when most people visit a city, they make a note of major museums, art galleries and attractions. when i visit a city, i make a list of food items and restaurants to visit. you can imagine that going to new orleans (for a culinary conference, no less) was going to be an amazing thing

when i was in new orleans in... may 2000? i had the following from that list:
gumbo
crawfish
beignets
po boy
and jambalaya

SOO GOOOOOOD. the gumbo in particular. the fried chicken was actually kind of scary looking at this restaurant we were at, but i bet it tasted fine.
