For me, it's a matter of ruthlessly not doing things.
For example, I don't watch much teevee; the only current show I'm watching is Grimm, which ends this year. After that I might cancel my FIOS subscription, though I'm thinking of checking out Legion and maybe The Expanse.
I get a lot of spinning done because that's what I prioritize. I don't have a family, my housekeeping is minimal, and (I confess) I suck at a lot of life maintenance stuff.
I watch a lot of TV/movies because of the spinning, though that may be disingenuous, because before spinning there was cross-stitch and (occasionally) knitting. Honestly, the invention of the DVR changed my life: my default activity changed from reading to crafting while watching the idiot box.
The main thing that structures my schedule is outside activities: three different spinning get-togethers every month; exercise three times a week with Pat WINOLJ; bar trivia with friends every Tuesday evening; Minn-stf every couple of weeks, though that has become a "maybe" thing rather than "must do"; cards once a month with other friends; TV watching with lydy most Fridays; and, most recently, watching Great British Bake Off with 1crowdedhour when we can manage it. It's not a normal sort of social life, but it seems to work for me.
