[As Promise wakes up, she's instantly aware of several things. First and foremost, Niko appears to be gone, which wouldn't be worrysome if she couldn't still feel his knife under the pillow. Also, she can't remember him leaving and while she tends not to get up when he does, she always at least wakes when he leaves the bed. Next, is that although Niko's gone, she's not alone, unless her mind has conjured something growling in the corner.

Putting the two together, she rapidly comes up with a third: it's a curse day and whatever's growling is probably some form of Niko. The fact that she so easily comes to this conclusion tells her a fourth, she's been in the City too long.

For the moment, the knife stays under the pillow, and slowly Promise turns in bed to face whatever it is Niko's turned into.]

[Niko is trying to remain calm. A small corner of his awareness is still human, though the effort exerted to maintain those feelings and reactions is taxing. He pushes himself further into the corner as Promise turns to regard him, the message clear in his body language: stay away.]

[She moves very slowly, reaching over to the side for her robe and watching the ...cougar version of Niko out of the corner of her eye. He was shrugged into the corner so tightly she knew there was nowhere else to go but forward and she really didn't know what would happen then.

She kept her voice calm and even, hoping that the movement wouldn't spook him.]

It's alright, Niko, it's a curse, you'll be fine.

[The growling continued, animal instinct asserting itself over human sentiment. Niko's body was quivering with the need to move, to be away from Promise and the confines of the bedroom.]
