A third of homes in the UK have broadband speeds well below the national average, according to research from price comparison site uSwitch.

I love ripping up statistic "reports." Most of the time they don't see the whole picture. I consider it an insult. I encouraged both of my kids to take a statistics class in college. I told them it would be the most difficult but most fun math class they ever take. And the only post-elementary level math I guaranteed they'd find useful for the rest of their lives.

Well, I guess by now they know you lied and statistics is a horrible, horrible thing to do to a child and not fun at all (I think I've forgotten all my post-16 statistics, but the different types of averages and distributions and simple probability and t-tests get me by in the real world).

Mechanics and algebra, otoh, makes the world go round and I loved them.

Seriously, though, at 10 years old you can figure out that half the numbers are going to be below the average and half above. I just wish that the BBC Radio 4 stats programme was on the air at the minute. *sigh* They'd have fun with that one.
