Naw, I think he's dead. That's why she was all up in Widmore's face about sacrifice; she was basically saying, "F-U you just don't talk to your kid, I had to send mine on a path to certain death!"
Or something. You know, in that British way.
I'm pretty sure that they're going to succeed in detonating Jughead. I just have a feeling...as for next season my guesses for the storylines are 1) Reunite Sun and Jin (or, getting back to the present 2) whatever conflict is building with the shadow of the statue people and their relationship with Ben/Widmore/Richard/Losties
I try not to speculate too much until 3-4 minutes before the plot turns (which I guess fairly accurately) because the story tends to push in another direction and I get pissed off.
I think they're not going to be able to change the future though. The fact that they know what happens tampers with their ability to make choices that would change the course: the more they try to effect the events of the Island, the more vulnerable they become to looking crazy, getting seized, getting killed... etc.
i kind of assumed that any action they take that they think will change the future is exactly what had to have happened in the past for the future to turn out the way that it did... if that makes sense. ie, theyre not going to change anything, because anything they do is what happened in 197-whatever.
but yeh- i'm sort of stumped about the eloise/daniel thing. if old eloise really thinks that daniel has a gift that he should use/ the island will heal him, why would she send him back if she knows that her younger self is just going to shoot him anyway? that makes it seem as though daniel's death (and not his life or his work or anything) is an integral part in what happens in the island's future, and she's more concerned with the island and what's on it than her own son?

This season is really stellar, I have to say.
