It's been a long time since someone wrote something on LJ that made me really disgusted with that person. I've seen Chai write stuff that didn't surprise me, but this was totally unexpected and disappointing

Ugh! I hate ignorance on either side of that argument. I don't like it when parents blindly make choicies that effect their child's wellbeing. Researching is soooo important! My kids get all their shots, but that's my choice, and it's based off of personal experiences and research, it's not just because some idiot doctor says that's what I should do.
She's a grad student and has a degree in Microbiology so she and science know WAY better than parents and their silly anecdotal evidence.
The fact that she was so insulting is what really put me off. And she's going to read this, but I don't care. There's no point in discussing it on her journal because everyone is just going to kiss her ass on it.
Yeah, see, there's no reason for anyone to be insulting each other about things like this. I think that as long as a parent is making an informed decision, then it's their choice. I personally have issues with parents that don't vaccinate simply because they don't think it's worth doing. I've seen kids be near death because of diseases that are preventable thanks to vaccines, so I do tend to be more pro-vax. We also had a measles outbreak in the San Diego area less than a year ago because of some parents that didn't vax their kids, made a trip outside the country, and brought it back with them. Scared the heck out of me, because at that point I had a baby that was too little to be vaccinated against it. If Chris had had chicken pox as a kid, my girls wouldn't get that vaccine, but because he never had it, I would prefer they get it to minimize the chance of him getting it from them.
See, I always weighed the risks against the benefits. My son has not had the MMR. I'm just not ready for him to get that. And I'm a "moron" because I didn't.
If you're going out of the country, you owe it to get your child vaccinated. We moved out to the country, so he got the Tetanus shot. I worked in a hospital, so he got the Hepatitis vaccines. I didn't do the Chickenpox because there is no adult booster to my knowledge.
I just never realized how arrogant she was, I guess. :(
I vaccinated Tris. Buuuut most of my friends didn't vaccinate their kids or did delayed. I totally support both. I don't support the judgmental kinds. Like.. this one women once smugly told me my son has Autism cause I vaccinated, and she was so glad she didn't. I looked at her and said well your kid is still in the developmental delayed program like my son so guess not everything is perfect in life, huh? But I've also ran into another woman who was EVIL to my friend because she delayed saying my friends kids would kill the whole population for not vax'ing. I told that woman hopefully she'd be the first one to keel over to help her fully enjoy her martyrdom.
People need to accept that for the most part.. parents know what's best for their own kids. Some kids it would kill them to get vaccinated and some it would kill them to not be. Parents intuition I like to think plays a big part.
LOL actually I look up to Jenny McCarthy. She's an advocate for parents and someone I know was trashing her because of her medical beliefs. Like someone HAS to be a doctor to know anything about medicine.

But you just did it because a celebrity said so, didn't you know? There was no rational thought or experience behind the decision at all!
