History:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_s-CRY-ed_characters
Ryuho was born to the wealthiest
family in the lost ground. He had a sweet and gentle nature, and feared his
innate power as an alter user. When he was very young he met Mimori Kiryuu, and
the two became friends. He accidentally summoned his alter once and created a
piece of crystal that she kept as a necklace.
When he was six, an alter attacked
his home, killing his mother. In panic, Ryuho fully summoned his alter for the
first time. He named it Zetsuei after his Doberman, who also died in the
attack.
After that, he spent most of his
life training, and eventually joined HOLY. A group of alter users who are
charged with keeping order and subduing native alter users. He is convinced
that an native alter was behind the attack, and has never give up searching for
the killer.
When HOLY arrest Kazuma, he treats
him like just another prisoner. However, Kazuma escapes, and Ryuho begins
tracking him down. He starts becoming a little obsessed with fighting Kazuma.
Kazuma leads a failed uprising against HOLY, with the end result being that a
number of alter users are captured by HOLY and sent to the mainland. Kazuma and
Ryuho eventually have a showdown, however, their combined powers open a rift
and start another cataclysm.
Nine months later, Ryuho is found
wandering the lost ground with amnesia. He fights off a group of bandits who
had enslaved a town of outers, and sets himself up as their protector. Holy
finds him and tries to convince him to return, but he refuses. Eventually, he
meets Kazuma again, but they find themselves on the same side.
The new Director of HOLY, Mujo
contacts the two of them, revealing that Ryuho’s father killed himself to avoid
being kidnapped to use again Ryuho. He then kidnaps Kanami. Ryuho and Kazuma
enter the city to face Mujo. Ryuho meets the black alter and is killed. His
companion Scheris (Who has always secretly loved him) Uses her alter to give
her life to him. When he awakes and finds her dead he breaks down and cries.
He defeats the black alter and then
teams up with Kazuma to defeat Mujo. After that, both he and Kazuma lead an
insurrection to force the mainland presence out of the Lost Ground. They then
fight each other at full strength and collapse unconscious.

Personality:
Naturally, Ryuho is a kind a gentle
person, and this is how his personality progressed both as a child, and during
the time that he was an amnesiac. Life however, has changed him. He has a
tendency to shut down emotions that he can’t handle, and his mother’s death
hurt him to the point that he seems almost robotic. For the first portion of
the anime, he tries to drive away Mimori [Who he later admits that he loves] as
a distraction. While he does eventually pull out of this and confess to Mimori
late in the series, Sheris’s death causes him to clamp down again. In the last
scene of the anime he tells Mimori to go home and walks away from her.
Ryuho is very cold, and very, very
disciplined. He hasn’t let himself feel since his mother died. Unless someone
knows him well, or really gets under his skin, Ryuho is likely to be completely
deadpan and monotone. [Ryuho’s alter takes the form of Ryuho’s subconscious
mind. Its first form wears blinders and a straightjacket.] He’s not completely
immune to emotion, he just ignores all of the inputs. Anger is the most likely thing
to get his exterior to crack at all.
However, underneath his cold
exterior, Ryuho is simmering with anger. He is driven to find the alter that
killed his mother, and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. He feels
nothing but contempt for people who do not obey the rules, and effectively
groups all lawbreakers in the same category as his mother’s killer. In the
series, the badly injured Kazuma was sentenced to a life of hard labor. When
Mimori objects that it would kill him, Ryuho replies that that’s the way it is,
and he brought it on himself.
In the series, Kazuma was the first person to
truly make Ryuho  angry. Once he got
angry, he became obsessive and the other parts of his shield started falling
away. When Kazuma upgrades his alter and the two become equals, Ryuho’s
obsession for Kazuma becomes an overwhelming bloodlust mingled with excitement.
He thoroughly enjoys fighting someone without restrictions, and fighting with Kazuma
is the first time he wasn’t forced to hold back. He never admitted until the
end of the series that he was excited to fight Kazuma however, even though it
was obvious to everyone else.
Ryuho also has a bit of a guilt
complex. As a child, he feared his alter and would never use it. As an adult,
he is constantly on guard to prevent his power going out of control, and
usually suppresses the largest amount of it. He may also feel that he is
somehow partyl guilty for his mother’s death, since she was killed by an alter
and he is an alter user.
He is also keenly aware of the discrimination
that alter users face, although he accepts that an amount of that is justified
fear of what a criminal alter user can do. Part of the resentment he initially
feels for Kazuma, is the belief that people like Kazuma are the reason alter
users are discriminated against.

There are two romantic interests for Ryuho who
loved him for most of their lives. Ryuho hardly seems to notice either of them,
and when he does start to return affections seems utterly baffled about how to act. He hasn’t really been
around people, other than coworkers and military personnel, since he was a
small child.
[A convention of the anime was the
balance of order and chaos. In this regard, Ryuho represents the extreme of
law, while Kazuma is the extreme of chaos.]

Fears: Ryuho fears losing control of his powers and hurting someone, or
of becoming a menace himself. As a child, he was told constantly that alter
users were dangerous, and was afraid of using his powers at all. This was
further cemented by seeing an alter kill his mother. He may even feel he is
partially responsible somehow, since he is an alter user.
This is why he starts out using Zetsuei in bound form,
rather that fighting at full capacity. His alter is so powerful that he risks
harming the people around him by accident.
His refusal to create bonds with anyone is linked to his
fear of loss. He fears letting himself care for anyone. If someone near him is
hurt, he tends to internalize that as something he should have prevented. He
doesn’t see that other people have the right to risk their own lives, he needs
to protect everyone. This
can be seen when Kanami and the villagers are taken captive. When ordered to
stand down, Ryuho does so, while Kazuma continues attacking.

Weaknesses: Ryuho does not really understand people well. He will be as
polite as appropriate, but will often miss subtle social cues, and he really
cannot relax when around people. Rather than deal maturely with his feelings,
Ryuho chooses to deny and suppress them. This causes his repressed emotions to
occasionally explode to the surface. [For example, once he started hating
Kazuma, he obsessed; and while he never told Sheris that he liked her, once she
died, he was lain out on the ground sobbing hysterically.]
Ryuho can be taken by surprise if someone can find out
enough about him to cause him to react positively. He’s actually pretty
innocent, emotionally speaking. It would be possible for an unscrupulous person
to really hurt him if he trusts them enough to open up.
In
relation to his fear of causing harm to innocent people, hostages work
particularly well against Ryuho. He would rather give up than put other
people at risk. He does this three times in series. The first time, he
allows a thug to beat him to protect an old woman; although when the
bandits decide he's easy prey and step away from her, he easily defeats
all of them. Later he allows a considerably weaker alter user to torture
him becuase the man has Mimori hostage [While he allows this, he does
not offer up the information of S-Cry-Ed Alters]. The last incident is
described above, Kanami and others are held hostage and Ryuho
surrenders.
At this point in canon, Ryuho is very unforgiving, and this
makes it difficult for him to work with others. He can be abrupt and abrasive
if he finds his companions lacking, either morally or in usefulness. He also
tends to overexert himself to the point of self-injury. He would rather die
than ask for help.
He’s never had alcohol before, and likely has a low
tolerance.

Mundane Strengths/Abilities:  Ryuho is a very good martial artist, he could
probably win honors at a national level competition. He’s fought off alter
users and a gang of thugs without resorting to his own alter.

Sensitivity/Magical Ability: Ryuho is an alter user. This means that he
is able to disintegrate and reform matter into a type of avatar. When his alter
is form, a section of matter [Wall, furniture, floor] will vanish. This can be
used as an ability in itself, as he has disintegrated bullets out of the air. His
alter takes three forms throughout the show:
Stage 1: Zetsuei can act
independently and appears as a small humanoid in a straight jacket. It can
attack with two razor sharp ribbons attached to its shoulders. The ribbons have
been shown lifting and throwing jeeps and cutting through armor cars. Zetsuei
will act instinctively to protect Ryuho, although it may be ordered to protect
someone else at Ryuho expense. [This is the stage Ryuho will be at.]
Star 2: Unbound, Zetsuei resembles
a naga. It still has the ribbon attack, as well as two clawed hands that can
detach and fire like rockets. In this stage, the alter moves faster than the
eye can see. This alter takes a heavy toll on Ryuho to summon, and he can be
seen coughing up blood after summoning this alter for a protracted battle with
Kazuma.
Stage 3: At stage three, Zetsuei
becomes a harmonic alter, meaning it forms on Ryuho’s body. In this form, it
looks like a suit of armor. Ryuho can still use the ribbons, and is shown
cutting jets out of the air. Parts of the armor detach into a sword and shield.
He can also use the power to fly, and can reach speeds close to the speed of
light if not interrupted by an obstacle. He is able to travel in space, which
implies that the alter protects his body from heat/cold and vacuum, he also
apparently doesn’t need to breathe. The alter may actually be killing him at
this point. Ryuho begins to develop scars across his face and body where the
alter connects in this form.
In general, an alter can be made
more powerful by summoning it from an object with sentimental value, such as
when Ryuho created Zetsuei from Scheris’ hairpin. An alter will change if the
user changes mentally or emotionally. Finally, an alter user can lose their
power if subjected to massive emotional trauma.

Supply List: His uniform and a satellite cell phone. The phone may have
a few useful apps, like a GPS and compass, not that those will be helpful here.
