(No, I don't have anything intelligent to add about the idea of the concave rope. Except to say that it reminds me of when a science teacher asked us to write an essay on what the world would be like if there were no sound, in that I think there would be layers and layers of implications that would not be immediately obvious. Which in turn reminds me of something I read recently about writing science fiction vs. writing other kinds of fiction, but I digress.
Tangent: remember that time we talked about what a universe would be like where there was no gravity, and the electromagnetic force took over some of its duties?)
