Stupid is as stupid does

So, today I was supposed to be flying out to Marrakech for our belated honeymoon (N and I tied the knot back in September).

  • Flights booked? Y
  • Accommodation booked? Y
  • Bags packed? Y
  • Passport/Tickets/Wallet? Y

While I'm shaving this morning, I had a nasty thought. "Is my passport still valid?". So I run upstairs and check the date... 15th November... ( Read more... )

Ok - just remember, its only money. Yeah, a lot of money, but you didn't make a mistake that hurt anyone, or did any damage to yourself, just your checkbook ( ... )

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets into a tizzy and then disaster/hilarity ensues.

I think I'll save up telling him until we're having a special moment of "Aren't I stupid" - at the moment he's not best pleased with me.

5 days of culture and some warmth, don't know about the Toddling Town, but it's pretty cold in London.

Is N the sort to laugh at things like this? Then tell him. If not, best just to share your misfortune with other people less likely to... Okay, I laughed just a little. But as seen you are far from the first who's done this ;)

I had 5 days left before I was supposed to travel (sometime in '04) when it occurs to me that maybe I needed some sort of document from the school that I was allowed to stay there for a few years. Call school, ask them: Do you have my documentation ready? Have you sent it? No. They have not. They have not gotten application from me. ARGH. I AM A DUNCE!

Fill out form, PAY AND PAY. Wait and wait and wait... Long story short: My document arrived on the very same day I was meant to leave, 4 hrs previous. I had to drive out to the FedEx depot, clutching my tracking number. The FedEx people dug it out, I tore the document out and sped onwards to the airport.

And all the rebookings I've done on Ryanair. I'm convinced those greedy gits are still in the air all because of me.

Have a lovely honeymoon!

Schadenfreude is funny when it's not directed at you, isn't it? LOL

I'm hoping this post turns into a sharing time of "You think you were stupid, wait til you hear this!"

Will have a lovely time, once I actually touch down in Morocco!

they are meant to check these things carefully ... tee picked this up not me...

I feel for you, really ... it's awful when these things happen ...

I have nothing of any help to say that you are not alone. I've never done it myself, but I have done some pretty dumb things in my time (all those years ago ... off my lawn whippersnapper!) that I really don't want to share at the moment so, have some gifs.

You're welcome. I like to make people smile when I can. And my only passport hassle/story was that I had to order my birth certificate from another state and it tacked on a $30 charge to the already $130 for the passport + pictures (since the place I did them the first time, did them wrong so I had to redo them). I order it in August 2008 and ask how long it takes. "Six weeks." they tell me. That's cool, I say. I'm traveling in December. "Oh, it'll be here by then."

SO I prepare to wait six weeks. I come home one day a week later, and voila. Passport. I didn't even pay for expedited service. I'm just glad that it's one expense I don't have to worry about this time.

PS: Thank you! I was so worried about it. But isn't that what a writer does?

OH.MY GOD!!!!! I can't believe that. I've gone through passport trauma, but within enough time to get valid passport before travel date.

And that's a good question. I'm not sure if I could tell my partner either, after all that. LOL
