I've not posted anything proper for a while, as work has been one big long stressy thing for months. However, today I made a bid for domestic goddess-hood again, with Empire Biscuits. (As I type, there are Jam Tarts in the oven.)
Oh thankyou, I indeed haven't heard of these either, but they look lovely. Sort of jammy dodgers with icing. Did you just make the icing with icing sugar and water?
Work is so stressful for everyone at the moment, it feels quite grim I think.
Oh thanks, I figured that's how you did the icing, but I think I'm going to give this recipe a try.
Yes in the NHS it's as bad, where I work hundreds have gone up until the end of March, forced to retire, or redeployed. It really is horrid and it also means there are no jobs anywhere as people aren't moving about the way they used to.
Despite having the ability to explode anything I concoct in the kitchen, I really want to try these out. There is something about those old cook books, they're fantastic. The biscuits look really tasty, and that tea set is gorgeous.
Awww. I express myself with gifs because I get in trouble with words. Hee. AND THESE LOOK GOOD. I didn't get a chance to have any while I was there. Luff you toooo.
Absolutely Scrummy!!!royalladyemmaJune 11 2011, 22:59:23 UTC
I have not been to a proper afternoon tea in ages! This is just lovely, thank you so much for inviting me! I love your china; such a delicate, springtime pattern. Your biscuits are quite delightful and tasty too! Might I have another?
When you finish scanning your cookbook in, is there any way possible that I could see a PDF copy of it, or a link to you or something? I adore old cookbooks, and this is one I'll never find here. I also have a couple of well-thumbed cookbooks leftover from my youth - there's a couple of pages that are crinkley, wavey, stained - its a Daffodil Cake recipe that I made umpteen times as a kid, and the pages reflect all the spills and splatters that are inherent with 'proper' baking!!!
Thank you again for having me to tea. I had a truly memorable time, and I look forward to returning the invitation!

It's all grim - people in other local authorities that i've worked with over the years - huge batch made redundant at the end of march - horrid.
