Never fly United

Having recently had my own United Airlines Nightmare (I don't want to talk about it) I can really appreciate this song. United baggage handlers broke this guys Taylor Guitar and refuses to take responsibility for it. So he got his revenge bardically.

I talked to Uncle Rick in Nashville about this and he had two points:

1) If the guy had bought a hard shell case and bought insurance like a professional, then he wouldn't be crying like a baby to get his money back...
Shit happens...sad but true...

2) What an outdated racist depiction of hispanics...Straight out of Speedy Gonzales...nice touch...

Two very good points...

Yeah, I don't know where the Mexican thing came from it was unnecessary. But United Airlines? They deserve all the shit they get.

Sure, I don't mind United Airlines getting crapped on...
But this is a weak case...Ask any lawyer (heh...)

This guy didn't take the proper PROFESSIONAL precautions he should've taken in case his shit got damaged...I don't see it as a United Airlines problem...I see it as a "musician who didn't invest the money to protect his livelihood" problem...

Well, it depends on the facts of the case. If the baggage handlers handled it with the "reasonable care an ordinary person might use" then, yes, they probably aren't liable. However, if they were, indeed, throwing the baggage around and subjecting it to unanticipated stress then they are responsible ( ... )

Do we know he *didn't* have a proper hard case? Yes, they showed a flimsy, but he might have actually had it properly stored. It is not impossible to break a hard case.

It's not impossible to break it, as long as you have a sledgehammer...Have you seen a hard case lately? A travel-ready hard case? They cost almost as much as a Taylor...and they're worth it...if you want to travel...It's obvious to me, by the way he described it in the song, that the guitar was not in a true hard case...

Tried to purchase airline baggage insurance recently? Essentially they say "Well, we'll insure it, but the items can't be fragile, can't be worth more than (I think this is correct) $1000.00 total, and this policy is exempt from normal wear and tear."Depends on your road manager, I suppose...Uncle Rick has been the road manager for Larry Carlton for three years and he's had no problem getting insurance for Larry's gear...Plus he makes sure all the gear is in hard cases...Three years later, no problems ( ... )
