My response to the idea that if the students at Virginia Tech had been armed, all would have been well. It is time to grow out of our fetish for weapons.

This the usual response: one well trained sharpshooting action hero with the presence of mind and steadiness of hands to eliminate the problem could have solved everything. From a policy perspective on creating law, I believe that one should balance off probabilities against wishful thinking

Sadly enough... most of them (~80%) are suicides. of the remaining deaths ~25% are accidents.

of Homicides only 25% are committed by strangers.
