All of a sudden, this is kinda hard

So, I'm finally a little worried about med school. We just started this pulmonary physiology section and I'm really not getting it. I spent around 7 hours today trying to understand the mechanisms behind Alveolar partial pressures and arterial partial pressures...and metabolic vs. respiratory alkalosis/acidosis...it's really confusing. I'm a little ( Read more... )

i'm assuming most people who read your journal know the terminology you're using... or hopefully, because i got a little lost already. are you medical school now? if so, which one? i bet a lot of med students get confused with different areas of human anatomy and physiology. you'll do fine. i found that in school that study groups helped and most med school programs actually have students that are willing to collaborate and helps those who are struggling. i found that i understood material better when i actually was able to teach others. just a though, hope it works. okay...along those lines...med school is still in session? good luck if you're studying for your finals or boards ( ... )

Hehehe, actually probably no one reading my journal knows what the fuck I'm talking about. This is pretty much indicated by the fact that only you have actually commented on the science in the journal....this makes you even cooler in my book. Yes, I am ending my first year of medical school at Stanford. It's entertaining to say the least...lol. Yes, a lot of people do get confused so I'm definitely not the only one...although I do feel stupid compared to other people a lot. You know, I don't really do that well in study groups or anything....they actually stress me out more than anything...I like learning the stuff by myself. When I hang out with people from school, I like it to be outside of school and I like to talk about things other than school. But, you're giving good advice ( ... )

Oh yeah, you are way cooler in my book for knowing pumonary stuff....hehehe. I keep visualizing you doing the hamster dance...makes me laugh...then I visualize you naked doing the hamseter dance;-) Yeah, I go to Stanford...don't know how I got in here...I'm definitely one of the dumber ones...lol. I actually didn't do that great on my MCAT...just average. I had research experience in college and pretty decent grades and I had a lot of shit happen to me when I was a kid. That stuff helped me. Plus, I have really original ideas for research. And, the fact that I'm half black and gay didn't hurt either...hehe. Uber genious I am not though ( ... )

Congrats on the win!

I got into some difficulties like you mentioned in some sections of my Molecular Biology and Genetics classes in college. Not much I can really say, other than sorry you are having a tough time with it right now. Just remember, take one thing at a time, and getting though difficult tasks in life brings the greatest rewards. Best wishes!

Thanks for the congrats buddy! I hear ya on Mo Bio and Genetics....I got Mo Bio pretty well but Genetics....first off, I just hate it. Second, I think that the calculations and stuff are just pointless for MDs to know...if I ever have a patient that I suspect has something genetically wrong, I'll refer him/her to a geneticist. There we go. hehe. Thanks for commisserating with me though. I definitely am trying to take one thing at a time. And yes, I hope this does bring me good rewards...I think it will. Have a great day!

Yeah, there was really just one thing in Mo. Bio. that I had a little difficulty with, but Genetics was another story - it wasn't so much that it was difficult but it was that it wasn't exactly my favorite thing LOL! One class I *loved* was Immunology - in fact I got an A+ in that. Hang in there and take care! :)

Wow, I loved immunology too! It was the only class I liked last quarter! I didn't get an A+ (we actually only have pass/fail here) but I did well. I'm going to try to be a TA for the course next year...should be fun:-) Have a great rest of the day!
