I would go farther than you and suggest that Eddie becomes a manipulated character, a slave to the plot Day wanted to write. I also worked out very early in the novel that Miller would create a drone that would eventually be trouble for humans. So when the next-generation drone/alien is captured, I knew it for what it was, so there was no revelation for me later. In fact, it annoyed me that Eddie supposedly being such a brainy engineer takes so many pages to figure it out

I agree with you on Pham. It was obvious she had a chip on her shoulder concerning him. It would've been nice to know what exactly that was about.
