Tom and I worry about this too. He's expressed a great deal of concern about potentially getting a job outside the house where he has to be away from the girl for long stretches of the day. I'm really fortunate in that I have a job that will allow me to ease back into working and even bring Annika with me sometimes. Being away from her for any real length of time seems very painful though. This is the bitch of being a working mom and I've been trying to figure out a win/win solution without success.

Rest assured though... there is no nanny or papa on Earth that can replace the Mama Love. Even when you're at work, you're still Evan's mom and you don't cease to exist in his mind. Soon will be the cutest thing ever... the excitement in his eyes that mama is home! You will figure out ways to make evenings with Mama special and your days off even more special.

These are the things that bring me comfort.

i think it is also easier as they get older because they naturally spend more time interacting with things other than Mama. even now, i feel less anxiety when i want to snatch 20 minutes to read the paper in the morning because Evan is now interested in objects other than my breasts. if i put him on his play mat, he will happily try and grab at the objects over his head, and he is learning to jiggle the toys to make the motion-detector music play. this buys me time to read or do the dishes or wash my face, knowing that the baby is happily engaged and even learning without me having to provide every stimulus ( ... )

Ouch indeed.

Having the opposite problem here. Dad is still find his way with her (and she with him), so I'm having the get used to the idea that she may be very displeased for a while when I'm gone to work.

Ouch.
