pondering...opinions desired

so, i have been thinking about this LJing thing recently. i have, in the past, criticized people for the way they totally pour out their hearts on LJ. i think this comes from my sense of how LJing is not in any way a private way of dealing with things....it's not even close to private. i say this because i'm beginning to feel that i'd be nice to ( Read more... )

i really like the 'filter' because then people can choose to read your stuff or not. i dont think there is anything wrong with it... but sometimes i feel stupid after. i really dont know. i'm going to watch a movie now.

see, i type better than i write, so i find LJ is the best place for me to journal about msot stuff. So when i need to pour out my heart my default is to go to LJ. The ability to link things to "memories" also helps, lets me kinda database all that ive written and quickly find entires about certain topics. Which is important to me becuase i have a poor memory.

but yeah, when i need to pour out of myself, i go to LJ first. and then after i've written whatever i needed to i stop and think about who i would be ok with reading what i wrote, and i set the security appropriately. I have custom filters for this purpose, to help me make sure im not being to vunerable with people i shouldnt be.

so thats my 2 cents worth ;)

Lj is a good place to get out emotions and frustrations to either let people know if you want or to get friends' opinions and the like, and to keep up with people. i tend to not feel vulnerable unless im talking to people right out, like person to person. but thats just me. :) i dont filter much either, cause what i say is what i say, and i dont really mind who reads it unless, it needs to be said to one person...*ahem*

See I donno about this, mer. Since I'm more of an LJ reader, not a writer, i might have a little bit of a different view on this. biased maybe. anyways so here's what i think:
when people pour out their emotions in this kind of a semi-public forum, it's because they are hoping that a certain person or persons are going to read it and take heed... unless you really really want everyone who reads it to know and not a select few, i wouldn't just generically post your inner feelings. maybe a real journal would work for that (you can still type and just save to a special journal folder on your laptop if writing is an issue...)
and maybe think about what your motive is to post... i mean do you want people to respond? are you hoping that your friends will get to know you better? understand the way you work/think/feel/react by reading this? maybe it's a good thing then.
hm, i guess that wasn't really an answer, just more questions, but that's my comment! love you mer!

I have to agree. If you want a place to release pent up frustration or emotions, I think the best place to do it is between you and God (in which case to articulate you might want to use a real journal or completely private online one). Or, you need to go and talk to someone about how you feel. Otherwise, I don't think much good can come of posting stuff publicly b/c it is going to either lead to being misunderstood or someone taking it the wrong way. That's my 2 cents on live journals, and I don't have one either :) Can't wait to see you Meredith!

it's funny b/c it seems that you (and my sister) both got the idea that i want to spill my deepest thoughts online--which isn't really the case. i just wondered if i were alone in thinking that it's silly to talk about pent up frustration or deep emotions online. it's interesting to see what people have been saying. heehee. can't wait to see u too! =)
