I'll write up a RL update later, but for now I just want to talk about last night's episode of Chuck (and the promo for next week) as well as post a picspam of the final two scenes. Clearly I have a one-track mind. This post will be public, so I can take advantage of the current challenge going on at
picspammy.
All in all, I found the episode to be a bit of a disappointment after last week's, but I'm really loving the lead-up into the finale. This show is one of the only shows that I watch that has been consistently good and entertaining all season. Not to mention, I still find it rather shocking that Josh Schwartz has managed to co-create and develop a show that doesn't completely blow in its second season (I'm looking at you, Gossip Girl and The O.C.). Also, I admit that any coherent thoughts I had about the episode went flying out the window as soon as I saw
the promo for next week. Good lord. The wait for next Monday is going to be killer, I'm sure (this, combined with the start of the new Ashes to Ashes series also next Monday, I may as well be dead), but let's talk about this week's.
I'm still loving Chuck's development and growth as a character. I've seen a few complaints here and there about his lack of reaction and follow-up concerning his first two kills (or inadvertant kills, I should say). But ever since Chuck's father was kidnapped, he has been dealing with tunnel vision. The only thing he thinks about is his father and getting him back. He can't be bothered with frozen yogurt and Buy More shannagins. Hell, he even puts Morgan on hold. He still looked rather gutted when the guy fell from the building. If he had purposely killed either of them, I'm sure it'd be different, but I found his behavior to be believeable. He has a one-track mind right now. Still, though, Chuck Bartowski is probably one of my favorite title characters ever.
Other things of note:
- "The Morgan" was amazing. I've seen my 13-year-old brother make the same move, which made it all the more hysterical for me.
- Casey and Sarah are so badass.
Case in point.
- Morgan getting played by Emmett was a bit surprising to me. I realize that I shouldn't be surprised at all since Emmett has always been rather manipulative and puts himself above others, but he totally screwed over Big Mike also, which is what I found surprising. This will not bode well.
- The obvious Subway product placements make me laugh every time.
- I liked Jill in this one? That caught me off-guard, since I don't really care for her. It was an easy out to give the character a chance to come back in the future, but I'm hoping she doesn't betray Chuck again.
- I'm always amused by Jeff and Lester's seediness and brown-nosing. Lester's "jealous?" comment to Emmett regarding his hair was golden.
- No Ellie and Awesome? I can live with this since the wedding is almost here, but I've always liked how they bring a more "normal" aspect to the show. It's nice to balance out the spy escapades with the Buy More zaniness.
- They used Franz Ferdinand's "Shopping for Blood", one of their b-sides. I love how this show can mix current tunes and, in some cases, "indie" tracks with 80's fare. Amazing.
But let's go back to the parts in which SARAH COMMITTED TREASON TO HELP CHUCK. This storyline is like everything I've ever dreamed of and more. ON THE RUN TOGETHER, MAKING OUT IN QUESTIONABLE MOTEL ROOMS. Okay, J. Schwartz, you've got me again. Well played.
I loved the ending scenes so much that I felt compelled to do a picspam. This is me after all. I live for picspams.
scene the first
General Beckman: Chuck trusts you, Sarah. He believes you will never betray him. Use that. Go to Chuck. Tell him we intercepted his father being transported and he's back at Castle. Agent Casey will be waiting here. He will tranq Chuck and he will wait for the extraction team to arrive for the transfer. That is all.
Casey: Beckman's right. The safest place for Chuck is underground. What do you think is going to happen when Fulcrum finds Jill anyway?
Sarah: We have good news.
Chuck: Can it wait? [waves keys] Computer emergency.
Sarah: It's about your father. We found him.
Chuck: What? How? Where is he?
Sarah: One of our recon teams intercepted his transport as Fulcrum was moving him. He's back at the Castle. He's safe, Chuck. It's all over.
Chuck: I owe you an apology.
Sarah: Why?
Chuck: I was beginning to think that I couldn't trust you anymore, Sarah. That maybe Jill was right that the CIA was never going to let me go and that they would always put their best interests ahead of mine. But not you. You've always looked out for me. Thank you.
Sarah: Take off your watch.
Chuck: Why?
Sarah: Because it's all a lie. Your dad is still out there. Beckman sent me to bring you back to the Castle. They're going to take you underground. We have to run.
scene the second
Chuck: You disobeyed orders for me? Committing treason, Sarah, you could go to jail.
Sarah: I know.
The caps were made and edited by me, so please don't use them for icons or anything. I only capped these two scenes, but if you'd like to have the original caps, just let me know and I'll upload them.
So, I was already spoiled for this development, since I had grown impatient and read the official synopses of the final episodes, but that doesn't make it any less epic and awesome. Earlier this season, I was afraid that the show's formula was growing stagnant and then BAM! they pull this on us. I wasn't expecting this kind of storyline so soon, although, with a third season renewal not being a sure thing (WOE), I can see why they did it. I don't know what it is that turned Chuck from a show I watch and enjoy every week to a show that I'd be gutted about if they canceled. It has taken the position of my resident happy!show that Pushing Daisies had vacated upon its cancelation. I hope that's not some sort of sign of things to come.
And I'm going to end things here before I embarrass myself with my flailing any further than I already have.
