fanfiction and me, or confessions of a (former) ff snob

Apr 11, 2013 11:09

A little over a year ago, maybe, I wrote my first fanfiction.  Even just a few weeks prior to that I thought ff was silly and a waste of time.  Seriously, can you not come up with your own characters?  Must you rely on The Professionals for an overall story line?  Then I started reading some really, really excellent stories and kind of changed my mind about reading it.

And THEN I realized I had been writing ff since I was a kid (when dinosaurs roamed, in fact).  I never committed these early works to paper or stone tablets or anything, but, damn if I hadn't been writing them in my brain.  So, with the recently acquired philosophy that life's too short, have fun, I'm doing something that kept me sane as a kid and brings me joy as a grownup.

Since I don't know where else to put this statement, I'm putting it here -

For White Collar, the two lines I'd never cross are:
  • any type of assualt on a child
  • death of a canon character (who doesn't die in canon)
