Oh, this was absolutely lovely! Their friendship and Neal's understated but profound grief is beautifully depicted here. I also love how you've been true to all of the characters' different perspectives on Kate without making anyone's point of view the definitive one.
*squee!* Oh, this is awesome! Thank you so much for writing this!
June understands better than anyone, I think, what he's going through, and you show that wonderfully - I love that she's prepared to give him his space, or a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear, whichever he needs. And I love how you show the ways Neal is coping, or trying to cope, and I'm so glad June is able to remind him he has a lot of people around, now, who care about him. She's one of the few people he'd really be willing to let his guard down with, I think, and this shows that very well. Wonderful story! *g*
Thank you so much - I'm really glad you liked it. It was a lovely prompt.
I wondered myself how Neal dealt with Kate's death, and "quietly" was generally my first thought. I've also always believed that, in matters of the heart, he would be more open with June than even with Mozzie, and June would know and respect that. He definitely knows that can be himself in front of her (at least in MY version of WC), otherwise he would have headed upstairs when she gave him the chance. I also think he forgets that people care about him, and those people would reach out to June to make certain that he is reminded of that.
Thanks again for your kind words. I look forward to reading more of YOUR stories soon.
I really think June is the only person in Neal's life who accepts him as he is and gives him space to make his own choices and doesn't judge him at all. Peter tries to push him to go straight, and Mozzie tries to pull him back to his old life, and they both have the best of intentions and are trying to do what's best for him, but only June is willing to let him decide and accept his decision either way. And I think Neal realizes and values that, and as a result he's a lot more open with her than with anyone else in his life. They really do have a very special relationship.
(I really need to start writing the June fic I've been playing with ...)
This was lovely. June's and Neal's friendship is beautifully portrayed. I loved the fact June was non judgmental about Kate. June telling Neal about the fantastic support group he has and how she learnt to cope made your story a delightful read.
Thank you so much - I'm glad you enjoyed this. Sometimes I think that June is Neal's emotional North Star, so it's natural to both of them that she would be the one that helps him through this, more than anyone else.
Thank you so very much. I think they have a wonderful friendship - every time she enters a room on the show Neal seems to light up. This story, to me, just seems to be a natural part of that friendship.
