Ooooooooh! Oh, I love this! Thank you so much!

This is lovely - I love Peter being worried, thinking about what might have happened. And I love that Neal did think about things, and decided the risks were acceptable ones, rather than completely rushing in blind. And this shows wonderfully how differently they look at the situation - Neal is not used to having backup, and it doesn't occur to him that Peter sees him as one of his people until Peter says so. They're both still uncertain with each other, but the beginnings of their friendship are there already.

Thank you so much! :) :) :)

I am soooo glad you liked this. I had great fun exploring this situation and their reactions. We always think of Neal as impulsive, and in some ways he is, but we're also always told that he's hyperintelligent and that he thinks on his feet. In my mind, Neal would have pulled off most of his alleged heists alone, but they would have been well and thoroughly planned. Peter would be more methodical in his preparations for anything, and he would certainly include his team in the planning, as well as the execution. Their own ways of doing things are probaby so ingrained that they don't even realize how foreign those ways seem to the other. Each one's history with other people would have to affect their action and reactions, as well.

Thank you so much for your comments, and more thanks for a wonderful prompt!

*flails happily*

The pilot is still my favorite episode because it's hands down brilliant and perfect and just made of awesome win. And your tag fits in seemlessly!

Neal cocked his head. “Are you saying I'm your people?” he asked quietly.

Peter paused for a moment. “Yes, I am.”

Eeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Thank you (she said, blushing). The Pilot is still my favorite ep, too, and it's so much fun to go back to it, knowing what we know now. I'm so glad that you enjoyed this.

Nice take on a great ep. It makes so much sense that Peter would be concerned! Thanks for filling in that blank.

Awww, this was a wonderful tag to the Pilot and for one of my favorite moments. That scene with Peter and Neal sitting on the desk together in the warehouse is one of my absolute favorite moments between them.

I like how you worked in things from later episodes, like Peter thinking of his other CI who was killed. I liked their conversation and the look at it from both of their sides and how Neal did think it through before going to the warehouse but decided the risk was worth it.

This is a nice look at the beginnings of their friendship. And I loved this part:

Neal cocked his head. “Are you saying I'm your people?” he asked quietly.

Peter paused for a moment. “Yes, I am.” He sipped his coffee. “Exigent circumstances, huh? When did you come up with that?”

Neal blew out the breath he was holding. “About four-thirty this morning. Chapter summaries would have been really helpful.”

Peter stood, smiling. "You know, I don't really need you right now. Get a couple hours of sleep, I'll pick you up for lunch." So Peter. :)

Thank you so much. I've always loved the Pilot, even more so since the extended version was finally aired here. One of the things I love about the series is that the writers give us so much backstory to use.

I'm glad you liked the ending, I had a lot of fun with that, too.
