on parabolic progress: highs and lows

Walk in the door while answering my phone. It's my mom, who's car I just got out of. She asks if I want to run back out and get my Goucher travel mug that I left in the cup holder. One of my writing teachers tried to describe what it is that a story needs in order to make it a story. She went on a long rant that I zoned out of and when I tuned back in she was gesturing wildly and declared, "It has to have a giraffe!"

I like this. It has a giraffe.

My boyfriend used to have a campus radio show, and I felt exactly the same way listening to it before we were together.

Crazy random happenstance is something else.

I'm glad you too have those moments when one can drift around without an immediate goal, shifting between various sources of sound that evoke different trains of thoughts.

That's a hard phenomenon for me to articulate...
