I don't understand the clock, either. It's frustrating--it's the centerpiece of the town, it must have some sort of history.

I do know that apparently there's some superstition it's counting down to the end of the world, but that isn't very helpful.

I'd ordinarily assume this one, if the idea is perpetuated by the locals, but with the nature of this place, it could probably be anywhere.

If you leave it out too long, yeah. It's a custom-- you leave a glass of milk and a plate of cookies out on Christmas Eve, before you go to bed, for Santa to eat when he comes down the chimney.
